The genus Hemerocallis(Liliaceae),comprising approximately 14species,is widely distributed in Europe and USA as an ornamental plant. The flowers and roots of this genus, however, have been extensively used as food and medicine in China,Korea, and Japan.Despite the wide application of the genus as traditional Chinese medicine for the treatment of various ailments including clearing heat, diuresis, detumescence as well as antidepressants, only a few of its species have been investigated for their chemical composition and biological activities. The dry root of H.minor Mill.was isolated and purified with chromatographic methods such as Sephadex LH-20,column chromatography of silica gel,MPLC,MCI gel, preparative TLC,and preparative HPLC,from the portions of petroleum ether, dichloromethane parts, and n-butyl alcohol.Their structures were identified by spectroscopic methods such as ESI-MS,1H-NMR,13C-NMR,DEPT,and 2D-NMR spectrum.38 compounds were isolated from H.minor Mill.,including 13alkaloids,14 phenolic glycosides,6 fatty acids and 5 others.Among the388 compounds, including 10 new alkaloids, all compounds were isolated from this plant for the first time.27 compounds isolated from this plant were evaluated the effect on TNF-αinduced NF-κB activity of isolated compounds, inhibitory effect of dopamine receptor and antibacterial activity. The HR-17 showed moderate inhibition on NF-κB activity with IC50 value of 18.0?M.Furthermore,only compound 17 showed moderate inhibition on dopamine receptor. And HR-24,HR-26,HR-32 showed moderate anti-bacterial activities.
