ObjectivesTo explore the use of WeChat platform(WeChat + WeChat public account)as a medium for the continuous care in children with epilepsy, and to explore the effects of this medium on the awareness of epilepsy-related knowledge among parents of children with epilepsy, the compliance of children taking epilepsy medication, and the nursing satisfaction of parents of children with epilepsy in order to improve the quality of life of children with epilepsy.MethodsA convenient sampling method was used. From March 2017 to October 2017,72 children with epilepsy who were hospitalized and met the inclusion criteria were selected as the study subjects in the Department of Pediatric Neurology,a Grade A of Level ? general hospital of Jining.Non-concurrent control was performed to avoid information interference between the two groups.Among them,36 cases were collected from March to June 2017 as control group, and 36 cases were collected from July to October 2017.The patients of control group were given regular health education during hospitalization and discharge guidance at the time of discharge. After discharge, telephone follow-up was used for continuous care;the patients of control group were taken transitional care by routine discharge guidance and telephone follow-up,while the intervention group was taken additional care by WeChat platform. We also evaluated the effect of WeChat platform on the continuation of care. Finally, the data collected in this study was entered into an Excel spreadsheet and processed and analyzed using SPSS 20.0 statistical software.Statistical methods mainly include descriptive statistics,chi-square test or rank sum test,t test and so on.If P < 0.05,the difference in the data tested was considered statistically significant.ResultsBefore the intervention, there was no significant difference in the general information, knowledge of epilepsy, medication status and quality of life between the two groups of children with epilepsy(P>0.05),and the baseline data were comparable. After 3 months of intervention, the intervention group was treated with WeChat platform for 3 months. The parents of epilepsy in the intervention group had a higher knowledge of epilepsy(92.92 ± 6.26 points)than the control group(70.67 ± 9.40 points),(t=11.817,P<0.01);the improvement was obvious;the compliance of children in the intervention group was higher than that of the control group,(Mann-Whitney U=439.000,P<0.01);the children in the intervention group and various aspects of quality of life(physiology functional, emotional function, social function, school performance)scores and overall quality of life were higher than the control group,(Wilcoxon W = 437.00-852.50,P <0.01)compared with the control group, also improved and improved(plus statistical data)the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05);at the same time, after WeChat platform intervention after discharge, the satisfaction on nurses in the intervention group of children with epilepsy(8.83 ± 0.94 points)was also compared with the control group(8.28±1.11 points). The scores were improved and the differences were statistically significant(t =2.289,P <0.05).The survey also found that parents of children with epilepsy showed higher acceptance and satisfaction with the way of using WeChat platform for continuous care.ConclusionsThe transitional care model based on WeChat platform can raise the knowledge and skills of children with epilepsy and their parents in self-care,enhance their self-confidence,and regulate their own behavior.Furthermore,it can effectively improve medicine-taking compliance of children with epilepsy, reduce the attack frequency and improve their quality of life. Thus the transitional care model based on WeChat platform is an effective nursing model and worth promoting.
