ObjectiveFocused on occurrence,influencing factors and conutermeasures associated to workplace violence among hospital health workers.Puts forward relevant suggestions for the prevention and control of hospital workplace violence,provides basic evidence for promoting occupational health and safety management system.MethodUsing the typical sampling method,978 medical workers in a public hospital in central China were selected as the research objects.Workplace Violence in the Health Sector Country Case Studies Research Instruments-Survey Questionnaire was adopted for a cross-sectional survey.Descriptive analysis and significance test were undertaken to describe the incidence and distribution characteristics of various types of violence incidents;characteristics of perpetrators were also discussed.Chi-square test and multiple Logistic regressions were used to analyze the influencing factors associated to workplace violence in the hospital concerned.Adopted Grounded Theory combined with qualitative research software MAXQDA 12,the open-ended coding,spindle coding and selective coding of the open-ended questions were conducted.ResultsAccording to the survey of 978 healthcare workers in the hospital,workplace violence were self-reported by 474(48.47%)healthcare workers in the past 12 months,with psychological violence the dominant type(47.14%).The self-reported incidences of psychological violence,such as verbal insult,bullying/intimidation,sexual harassment and racial discrimination,accounted for 45.71%,12.78%,2.35%and 2.14%among survey participants,respectively.The perpetrators of workplace violence in hospitals were mainly patients' family members,accounting for 49.43%,followed by patients(41.45%),managers(3.70%),colleagues(2.99%)and others(1.01%).Factors such as gender,shift work,department,night work and other factors were demonstrated to have an influence on the occurrence of workplace,through a univariate analysis.Gender and shift work are risk factors for physical violence among helthcare workers.Male helthcare workers are 1.96 times more likely to experience physical violence than female helthcare workers(OR=1.96,P<0.01).The risk of physical violence among shift helthcare workers was 3.37 times that of non-shift helthcare workers(OR=3.37,P<0.01).Gender,professional title,department,and monthly income are risk factors for helthcare workers to suffer psychological violence.Male helthcare workers are 1.48 times more likely to experience psychological violence than female helthcare workers(OR=1.48,P=0.03);senior professional title helthcare work The risk of psychological violence was 2.55 times higher than that of junior professional helthcare workers(OR=2.55,P<0.01);the risk of psychological violence among emergency helthcare workers was 1.975 times that of internal medicine(ORF=1.85,P=0.01);The risk of psychological violence among helthcare workers with monthly income of 4000-6000 is 4.29 times that of medical workers with monthly income less than 2000(OR=4.29,P<0.01).After coding,4005 points related to workplace violence,478 tree points,47 categories and 16 main categories were finally combed,and the effective rate was 85.71%.The open response of hospital health workers to the causes of physical violence was mainly based on work organization management factors(39.78%,389/978)and workplace management factors(33.95%,332/978).The open response to the causes of psychological violence is mainly based on work organization management factors(42.23%,413/978).The open responses to the recommendations are mainly based on organizational measures(55.83%,546/978)and environmental measures(54.50%,533/978).ConclusionThe occurrence of workplace violence in hospitals has its own characteristics in occupation,department distribution,shift work.It is of particular importance and urgency to develop an occupational health and safety system at the hospital,including prevention workplace violence an important component.
