Objective: To explore the clinical manifestations, epidemiological date, laboratory tests, imaging characteristics, treatment and prognosis of the neurobrucellosis, and raise the level of clinical physicians understanding of this Disease. Methods: Retrospective analysis was performed on the epidemiological data, clinical manifestations, lumbar puncture cerebrospinal fluid results, imaging data, medication situation and prognosis of16 patients diagnosed with neurobrucellosis in the first affiliated hospital of Xinjiang Medical University from January 2010 to June 2018.Results: Among 537 cases of brucellosis,16 cases invaded the nervous system, the incidence was 2.98%.Ten cases(62.5%,10/16)of neurobrucellosis are all males and the other six(37.5%,6/16)are female. The mean age was(36±12)years(range 20-60 years).14 cases(87.5%,14/16)were contacted with infected animals, such as sheep and cattle or diaries.Brucella serum agglutination test were all positive in 16 cases(100%,16/16),the proportion is more than1/160.Brucella malthus was cultured in 3 patients(18.75%,3/16).Cerebrospinal fluid(CSF)pressure elevated in 10 patients(62.5,10/16).The number of CSF white blood cell(monocyte)increased in all patients(100%,16/16)(the lowest is 15*10^6,highest is565*10^6)and the levels of patients increased in fifteen patients(93.75%,15/16)while the chloride and glucose levels decreased in 15 cases(93.75%,15/16)or normal in 1 case(6.25%,1/16).Meningitis(11 case,68.75%,11/16),spinal cord meningitis(2 cases,12.5%,2/16),cranial neuropathy(2 cases,12.5%,2/16),and meningoencephalitis(1 case,6.25%,1/16)were the main clinical manifestation in this group of patients. Conclusion: The clinical features of neurobrucellosis varies greatly.Timely diagnosis and treatment can cure it.If not treated in time,it can leave sequelae and even cause death of patients. However,NB should be considered in cases that have unusual manifestations, especially those with a history of contact with cattle and sheep in endemic areas.
