Objectives:In this study,we focused on the factors influencing the parental care burden of hospitalized children with pediatric pneumonia. We mainly investigated and analyzed the influence of disease cognition and social support on caregiver burden, which could be references for psychological health intervention for caregivers. Methods:Total 150 parents of hospitalized children in the general ward of the pediatrics were investigated adopting the method of convenient sampling from April to August in 2018.Information was collected using the Revised Illness Perception Questionnaire,Social Support Rating Scale, caregiver burden inventory and the self-designed general information questionnaire.Statistical date was processed and analyzed using SPSS 20.0.Results:1.Scores of caregiver burden for parents in pediatric wards were as follows:Total Burden of care(43.07±9.92),physicial burden(8.59±3.50),affective burden(4.93±3.52),social burden(5.93±2.83),time dependence burden(13.18±3.48),and limited development burden(10.37±3.20).There were statistically significant differences in caregiver burden among different types of family residence, age of children and whether the one-child(P<0.05).2.The illness perception of parents in pediatric wards could affect the caregiver burden.Illness perception like knowledge of urgent/chronic diseases, serious consequences, disease periodicity and emotional statement(r=0.406,0.458,0.441,0.266;P<0.01)was positively correlated with scores of caregiver burden, while personal control(r=-0.197,P=0.016)was negatively correlated.3.The social support level of parents in pediatric wards could influence the caregiver burden.Social supports like objective support, subjective support, support utilization and aggregate score of social support(r=-0.206,-0.302,-0.221,-0.328,P<0.05)were negatively correlated with scores of caregiver burden.4.Hierarchical multiple linear regression analysis found that the first layer materials(general information of parents and child patients)could explain 16.7%of the variation of caregiver burden, the second layer(objective support, subjective support and support utilization degree of social supports were added)could explain 29.2%of the variation of caregiver burden, the third layer(seven dimensions of illness perception were added)could explain 43.6%of the variation of caregiver burden. In addition, occupation, per capita family income, age of children, subjective support, serious consequences, treatment control and disease periodicity were independent risk factors of caregiver burden.Conclusions:1.Family residence, age of children and whether the one-child can affect the caregiver burden for parents in pediatric wards.2.Disease cognition can influence the caregiver burden for parents in pediatric wards.Knowledge of urgent/chronic diseases, serious consequences, disease periodicity and emotional statement were positively correlated, while personal control was negatively correlated, indicating that long duration, severity and relapse of disease would increase the burden of caregivers for parents, while increasing of personal control would reduce the burden of caregivers for parents.3.Social support level can influence the change of the caregiver burden for parents. The higher the social support level is,the lower the burden of caregivers is..
