In the period of social transition, people are faced with the pressure from work and life so that they need a way to get rid of the pressure and keep healthy. Reality TV show appears timely to meet the public's carnival psychology and becomes the "release valve". This imported product has brought happiness and positive energy to the public, but also generates problems. If these problems are not solved properly and go on deteriorating, the healthy development of Chinese TV media will be seriously impacted. What's worse, the Chinese audience groups, especially the young audience, their value of life, world view and interpersonal communication will be negatively influenced.Under the background of the prevalence of reality TV shows and the development of interpersonal relationship study, this thesis discusses the application of interpersonal relationship study to the reality TV show, including the construction of a character, interpersonal behavior, performance of interpersonal relationships, and an reflection of the real interpersonal relationship in reality TV shows. It also put forward useful and constructive suggestions to the real life interpersonal relationship.Studies suggest that reality TV show maintains a substantially "reality", and characters are rapidly labeled with a certain personality. The personality differences lead to conflicts between the characters, which creates a selling point for the program. When presenting the interpersonal relationships, reality TV shows mainly adopt a perspective of external focalization and an assistive internal focalization to strengthen the authenticity of the program. About the presentation time, t linear sequence of a story is disorganized by the approach of a hybrid timing sequence, in which way complex interpersonal relationships will be formed. This thesis suggests that communication barriers exists in the characters with huge age gap and small groups formation can cause a lack of trust, in fact, all these problems are the reflection of the real interpersonal relationships. In reality, interpersonal relationship building should be on the basis of virtues, the barriers between small groups should be broken out, and a smooth intergenerational communication channel should be built.This thesis introduces the theory of interpersonal relationship to the study of Chinese reality TV show in an attempt to interpret the communication pattern of Chinese reality TV show from the perspective of interpersonal relationship, in order to promote the healthy development of Chinese reality TV show.
