Translation is to convey the meaning of one language into another language so as to achieve the goals of communicating thoughts and feelings, disseminating cultural knowledge, promoting social civilization, and especially flourishing the culture of both source and target languages. In China, English as a foreign language in the process of teaching and learning must be inseparable from the practice of translation.The cultivation of translating ability is taken as an essential part of English teaching in high schools, and it is also one of the most effective strategies in English learning.The purpose of this paper is to elaborate and explore the intimate relationship between translation and English teaching in high schools with the theoretical supports of English curriculum standards, scaffolding instruction, learning transferring as well as substantial details and teaching examples extracted from revision class, grammar class,writing class and some other ways of using translation activities to assist English teaching in high school,with a view to improving the English teaching quality and inspiring more ideas and thinking on the practical applications of translation activities to English teaching in Chinese high schools. In this sense, this paper is supposed to serve as an important window for readers to discover brand new areas in translation.Last but not least, from the perspective of job hunting, the study of this thesis provides new occupational view for MTI postgraduates. Besides being translators and other translation related staffs, MTI postgraduates can also be qualified or even excellent English teachers in high schools through their own efforts and related professional learning. Therefore, the study on the application of translation activities to English teaching in high school paves the way for those MTI postgraduates who have interest in being secondary teachers in their future careers.
