Objectives:To investigate efficacy and safety of acupuncture for allergic rhinitis by systematic reviews and Meta-analysis;To analyse the theory basis of acupuncture for allergic rhinitis and investigate the laws of choose point to cure allergic rhinitis by acupuncture. Methods: To formulate inclusion criteria, exclusion criteria and search methods base on Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions5.1.0; Two reviewers extracted information on patients, interventions, methods and results with data collection forms which designed by Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions5.1.0 and the characteristic of acupuncture independently; assessed risk of bias and quality of the acupuncture intervention; To investigate efficacy and safety of acupuncture for allergic rhinitis by Revman5.3.Used total nasal symptom seore:TNSS, Total non nasal symptom score : TNNSS, Rhinoconjunctivitis quality of life questionnaire:RQLQ, Response, laboratory index(IgE, blood eosinophil counts and nasal eosinophil counts)as the outcome to evalute the efficacy.Used the number of side effects to evalute the safety.Count data calculate the relative risk(Relative Risk, RR) and 95% confidence interval(confidence interval, CI) and measurement data calculate standardized mean difference(standardized mean difference, SMD) and 95% confidence interval.Established form of selection of points of acupuncture for allergic rhinitis with Access2013 and analysised the data with SPSS Modeler14.1.Result:1.Twenty-one trials with 1807 participants met the inclusion criteria, four trials reported in English and seventeen trials reported in Chinese.2.To make subgroups with time points comperated with the blank control a total of 10 indexes, compared with sham acupuncture a total of 15 indexes, compared with western medicine, a total of 17 indexes.3.Result of Meta-analysis: Acupuncture is more effective for allergic rhinitis in 8 indexes and 2 indexes showed no significant statistical difference;Compared with sham acupuncture, 4 indexes showed acupuncture is more effective for allergic rhinitis than sham acupuncture, the other 11 indicators showed no significant statistical difference;Compared with drug, 3 indexes showed acupuncture is more effective for allergic rhinitis than drug, drug is more effective in 3 indexes,11 indexes showed no significant statistical difference.4. The top points of acupuncture for allergic rhinitis are yintang, yingxiang, hegu, zusanli. They are often applicated together.Conclusion:1.This review indicates that acupuncture in treating allergic rhinitis is effective, and is not placebo effective.Acupuncture and drug have equivalent efficacy. The long-term curative effect of Acupuncture is better.2.Because the trials in this review are limitd by poor methodological quality, the results of the review may has bias.Further research necessary to conduct high quality RCT to clarify the efficacy of acupuncture treatment of allergic rhinitis and safety.3. yintang, yingxiang, hegu, zusanli may be the most useful point for allergic rhinitis and they are applicated together.
