Company S was hived off from a hydropower company, whose majorbusiness is offering consultation services for hydropower engineering. As thecompetitive environment is getting worse, it is very urgent for Company S to upgradeits competitive advantage. This article first analyses both external and internalenvironment, including strength, weakness, opportunity and threat, with the SWOTmodel, then proposes some advantages and disadvantages of both the company and itscompetitors, leading to some suggestions, which develop strategies to maintain the corecompetence and upgrade the company’s competitive advantage within the industry.Some measures are put forward due to the author. On one hand, the company shouldbuild inimitable core competence on the base of its own advantage. On the other hand,the fundamentals, including HR, R&D, brand building and organization culture, shouldbe improved. A learning organization, with dynamic capability, self-improvementmechanism, and client-oriented culture then is built and maintained, pursuing theleadership in its market.
