Analysis Of The Newspapers Industry Development In Xiangxi (Hunan Province):in The Period Of Republic Of China

During the period of the Republic of China, the industry of newspapers developed boomingly in Hunan province and their quantities are on the top in nationwide scale. The development of newspapers exerted a considerable influence on the aspects of society. From the perspective of the newspaper development in Hunan, the region of Xiangxi with its mystery always occupied the indispensable status in history. What happened to newspapers and publishing activities in that period of Xiangxi undoubtedly played a decisive role in history and culture. As the newspapers which was born in the time of a social change in Xiangxi, it had experienced from the initial production, the whole process of development, to its final disappearance. All of these would be recorded in the history of Xiangxi and cannot be erased.Throughout the development of Xiangxi newspapers in republic of China, the whole process can be roughly divided into four periods:the beginning of newspapers industry is the first period from 1912 to 1924 (from the first year of the Republic of China to the thirteen); the second period is from 1925 (the fourteenth) to 1936 (the twenty-fifth) for the development of Xiangxi newspapers; the third period is from 1937 (the twenty-sixth) to 1945 (the thirty-fourth) was the peak of the Anti-Japanese War; the fourth period is from 1946 (thirty-fifth) to 1949 (thirty-eighth) which was the stage of development before the founding of China.The rise of newspapers press and publication in Xiangxi leads to the development of the local culture. During the period of Anti-Japanese War, the promotion of newspaper inspired people’s sense of democracy and brought Xiangxi more closely to the other regions. In this way, the self conception of people had improved. In addition, the local economy and news publishing industry promoted each other and achieved common prosperity. Finally, people’s living standards and cultural awareness had enhanced. All of those have written a new chapter for the history of news publishing in Xiangxi.
