Objective1. To explore the status of nursing soft skills of nursing students;2. To discuss the best way of training for nursing students to improve nursing soft skills;3. To explore an effective training plan to improve nursing soft skills of nursing students.MethodsThis Survey was divided into two parts. The first part was the investigative research. By convenient sampling method,254 nursing students of one university in Guangzhou were investigated to explore the status of nursing soft skills of nursing students. There were three parts in the questionnaire, including general information questionnaire, nursing soft skills assessment scale, nursing soft skills cognition and demand questionnaire. The nursing soft skills assessment scale was compiled by Children’s Hospital of Chongqing Medical University Zheng Xianlan and her team, consisted of 6 subscales and 52 items. The Cronbach’s a of total scale was 0.890, split-half reliability was 0.841, and test-retest reliabilities was 0.771. The reliability and validity of it was well. The researcher evaluated and analyzed of the research object of nursing soft skills by the nursing soft skills assessment scale. The third part of the questionnaire was used to investigate the cognition and demand of nursing soft skills in nursing students. The second part belonged to empirical research. With the method of convenience sampling, the nursing students of one university of Guangzhou were selected as research object. Two nursing classes were divided into experimental group and control group. Both groups to each included in 38 cases. The experimental group was accepted the experiential training, training a total of 45 hours, one time one week, completed in a semester, while the control group was taught by traditional teaching method. The nursing soft skills of both groups were evaluated by nursing soft skills assessment scale before and after the intervention. After training, the experimental group were demanded to fill the self-designed "nursing soft skills experiential training feedback questionnaire", to evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of the training scheme.During the study, the researcher carefully collected and recorded data. The data was put into the database and led in Software 17.0 to be statistically analyzed. The statistical methods included descriptive statistics analysis, t-test and chi-square test and so on. According to the results of statistical analysis, the researchers carried out the analysis and evaluation on the effect of applying experiential training to improve nursing students’nursing soft skills.Results1. Nursing soft skills of nursing students was in the general level300 questionnaires were sent out in this research and there were 254 copies of valid questionnaires. The effective recovery rate was 85%. The total score of nursing soft skills of nursing students was (148.09±14.86), in the medium level. In 5 dimensions, average scores from high to the low was in order as: interpersonal skills(3.58±0.42)points, career sentiment skills (3.53±0.39) points, self management(3.34±0.42) points, organization and management skills of (3.22±0.44), the concept of cognitive skills(3.17±0.48) points. According to frequency of reading extracurricular books and whether to participate in school activities frequently, nursing soft skills score was statistically significant difference within each group (P<0.05).2. The cognition of nursing soft skills in nursing students was at a low level and students desired to improve their nursing soft skills33.5% nursing students understood the connotation of nursing soft skills. More than 90% nursing students thought it was necessary to improve their nursing soft skills and 96.5% nursing students approved that the educators need to pay attention to the cultivation of nursing soft skills. Demand for nursing soft skills training content in the top three was in order as: communication cooperation ability, random strain ability, ability to analyze and solve nursing problems.3. Effects of training plan to improve the nursing soft skills of nursing students(1) To analyze of experimental group and control group before and after training their differences in nursing soft skills overall score and score of each dimension. After the intervention, the nursing soft skills overall score of the experimental group was higher than before and the difference had statistical significance(P<0.05). In the experimental group, the comparison of before and after the test in interpersonal skills dimension score, cognitive skills dimension score, career sentiment skills scores showed difference and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). While results showed that there was no statistical significance compared with before and after the test of the experimental group differences in two dimensions which were management dimension and self management dimension (P>0.05). The results of the control group showed that the change of nursing soft skills overall score and the score of four dimensions which were organization and management dimension, self management dimension, cognitive skills dimension, career sentiment skills dimension had no statistical significance (P>0.05). But there was statistical significance among before and after the training in the interpersonal skills dimension score (P<0.05).(2) To analyze the difference between the experimental group and the control group of nursing soft skills score after training. After the intervention, total score of nursing soft skills in the experimental group was significantly higher than that of the control group, and the difference had statistical significance(P<0.05). The scores of interpersonal skills dimension, cognitive skills dimension and career sentiment skills dimension in the experimental group were higher than the control group. The difference of these dimensions score between experimental group and control group had statistical significance (P<0.05). There was no statistical significance in the self management dimension as well as organization and management dimension of experimental group and control group (P>0.05).(3)After the training, the experimental group were demanded to fill the self-designed "nursing soft skills experiential training feedback questionnaire".91.4% students of the experimental group were satisfied or very satisfied with this training. It showed that nursing students thought some abilities were improved after this training and the top five of that were in order as:interpersonal communication ability, cognition of nursing soft skills, nursing service etiquette, humanistic care consciousness, consciousness of nurse-patient communication.82.90% of the students were willing to accept the experiential training to improve nursing soft skills. The students of the experimental group were surveyed by an open question about the biggest harvest of this training. According to the results of opinions, it showed that students thought this training could cultivate their team cooperation ability, strengthen communication ability, could take part in the practice personally, at the same time also could deepen the understanding of nursing work and nursing soft skills.By analyzing of the feedback questionnaire results, nursing students confirmed the effectiveness of experiential training method which was used in the nursing soft skills training.Conclusion1. Nursing students’ nursing soft skills level and cognitive level of nursing soft skills were not high. We should pay attention to training nursing students’nursing soft skills during higher nursing education.2. Nursing students presented high satisfaction for experiential training to improve nursing soft skills. Nursing soft skills of nursing students could be improved by experiential training which was effective training. This meaned that it was suitable to apply in nursing education.
