Research On The Economic Burden And Quality Of Life Of Patients With Lung Cancer

Lung cancer is the most common and deadly cancer which had been a significant public health issues that threaten the life and health of people in our country severely.Studying the burden of disease of the lung cancer and measuring the influence on health,socioeconomic and the quality of life of patients which caused by lung cancer has been a prerequisite for formulating and evaluating the prevention and treatment of lung cancer.The economic burden of lung cancer patients was analyzed in this study,based on EQ-5D,evaluating the quality of life of lung cancer patients.In order to providing basic information for reducing the damage on health caused by lung cancer and controlled the economic burden of lung cancer.Objective Figuring out the medical expense and non-medical expense of lung cancer patients during the whole course.Estimating the economic burden of lung cancer patients.In addition,exploring the main factors that affect the economic burden;Comparing the quality of life between lung cancer patients and non lung cancer patients,analyzing the factors that affect the quality of life of lung cancer patients.Methods The survey data of this research was divided into two parts.Part one was a retrospective survey,the data of outpatient and inpatient expenses of lung cancer patients in Anhui Province in 2014 was collected,analyzing the structure status of the outpatient and inpatient expenses of lung cancer patients,the differences of the outpatient and inpatient expenses of lung cancer patients in different levels of hospitals or different types of hospitals.Part two was typical investigation.Lung cancer patients which treated in four three-class hospitals from December 2014 to July 2015 in Anhui Province were selected as the research subjects,inquiring the medical expense and non-medical expense during the whole course,calculating the economic burden of lung cancer patients,analyzing the influencing factors of economic burden;And EQ-5D was adopted as tool to measure the quality of life of lung cancer patients.Analyzing comparatively the difference of quality of life between the lung cancer patients and other individuals in general,analyzing the influencing factor of quality of life.Results(1)Lung cancer patients lack of the initiative physical examination and screening.The rate of finding disease was less than 1/10 by means of physical examination and screening;(2)To varying degrees,first diagnosis delay existed in lung cancer patients,average interval time from symptom or sign existed to seeking treatment due to above symptom or sign was 45.2 days;(3)Lung cancer patients tend to selecting provincial and municipal hospitals,the treatment rate(Outpatient/inpatient) in provincial hospital was 72.8 percent,the treatment rate in municipal hospital was 16.3 percent;(4)The economic burden of lung cancer patients is serious,the economic burden was 43549.1 yuan per person(besides Medical insurance compensation) last year,1.85 times as Annual Household Income;(5)The main factor that constitute the economic burden of lung cancer patients is the medical direct economic burden,67.2 percent.The key of controlling the medical direct economic burden is controlling the drug expenses and inspection/test expenses;(6)By multi factor Analysis,the influencing factors of medical direct economic burden of lung cancer patients including age,tumor stage,medical insurance type and diagnosis time;(7)The quality of life of lung cancer patients was bad than that of non lung cancer patients,pain/discomfort and anxious/depression were the main health issues of lung cancer patients.the influencing factors of quality of life including age,annual,household-income,treatment modality,education,diagnosis-time and turmor stages.Conclusions Reducing the incidence of lung cancer and improve the recovery rate are the fundamental methods of reducing the influences of lung cancer.Suggestions:(1)Intervention measures and financial investment of lung cancer executed by society and government should be mainly focused on early diagnosis and treatment,science education and medical security;(2)Optimizing the allocation of resources,structuring three-level network of cancer prevention and treatment;(3) Concerning the mental health of lung cancer patients in low-age group,strengthening the assistance to low-income groups;(4)Promoting the reform of urban public hospitals,adjusting the structure of medical expenses.
