Objective:To estimate the burden of cancer in 7 surveillance sites of Guangxi from 2008 to 2013 and to discuss the current situation, development trend and indirect economic burden of cancers, so as to provide scientific evidence for cancer prevention and control. Methods:Deaths from cancer were collected from diseases surveillance system in Guangxi, population data was collected from bureau of statistics. We use the template and cancer data of China which download from WHO to calculated the year of life lost (YLL) and year lost due to disability (YLD). Finally, disability-adjusted life year (DALY) was calculated to evaluate the burden of cancer and indirect economic burden. Results:The overall DALYs of cancer was 302363.58 (68.19% in male and 31.81% in female; 98.72% in YLL and 1.28% in YLD) in 7 surveillance sites of Guangxi province during 2008 to 2013, with the intensity of 17.90 DALYs per 1000 population (23.26 for male and 11.96 for female). The DALY and DALY intensity of malignant tumor increased from 2008 to 2011, while reduced during 2011-2013. Male’s cancers DALY intensity is increased by 0.65 times from 2008 to 2013, female’s has increased by 0.30 times, overall has increased by 0.49 times.Urban areas malignant tumor burden reduced from 13.24 DALYs per 1000 population in 2008 to 11.72 in 2013 while rural areas increased from 10.00 to 18.12.The highest DALY is in 70+years old, with the highest burden of cancer is other malignant tumor in 0-14 years old for male, while 15-69 years old is liver cancer and 70+age for trachea/bronchus/lung cancer; in female 0-29 is other malignant tumor,30 to 59 years old for liver cancer, more than 60 years of age for trachea/bronchus/lung cancer. The top five causes of DALYs were liver cancer, trachea/bronchus/lung cancer, other malignant neoplasms, stomach cancer and colon/rectum cancer. Liver cancer has the highest DALY intensity in male, which increased from 4.39 DALYs per 1000 population in 2008 to 8.34 in 2013, has increased by 0.9 times; female with the trachea/bronchus/lung cancer, increased by 0.31 times, from 1.61 to 2.11 DALYs per 1000 population.Indirect economic burden caused by cancers is RMB 431471.47 million in 7 surveillance sites of Guangxi from 2008 to 2013(68.60% in male and 31.40% in female), male’s indirect economic burden were higher than female’s in each years. The indirect economic loss of cancers increased by 2.31 times from 2008 to 2013(2.59 times for male and 1.78 times for female). The top five indirect economic burden of cancers were liver cancer, trachea/bronchus/lung cancer, other malignant tumor, stomach cancer and colon/rectum cancer from 2008 to 2013, their constituent ratio of the total indirect economic burden were 31.99%, 20.75%,10.26%,9.76% and 5.16% separately. Conclusions:The burden of cancer in 7 surveillance sites of Guangxi was at an average level in China. But the disease burden and indirect economic burden of many cancers is still serious, such as liver cancer and trachea/bronchus/lung cancer. So more attention should be paid to improve cancer prevention and control.
