Objective:To investigate the Knowledge-Attitude-Practice levels on common risks from caregivers in communities and its influencing factors, and compare the KABP levels among caregivers under different health education plans, which will finally provides the basis of training for community nurses.Methods:We investigated 280 caregivers caring the elders from 4 communities in Chongqing with a self-designed questionnaire about the KABP levels on common safety risks of elders. Objective sampling was adopted and a total of 100 caregivers were selected from communities in Chongqing, they were randomly divided into control group and intervention group:control group only received general health education and the intervention group received comprehensive health education. The KABP levels were came from the two groups before and after three months’interventions.Results:The total average score was 61.72±6.99, and the influencing factors of KABP on common safety risks of elders were education level, profession, knowledge for the caregivers, as well as the ages, residence, perceived diseases state, history of safety risks for elders. After three months’ interventions, the scores of KABP levels among caregivers in intervention group remarkably improved from 10.98±2.704,22.76±5.305, 22.35±3.778,54.93±8.790 to 16.63±1.768,32.43±2.277,32.52±2.873, 81.46±3.644, and when compared with the control group, the scores of their knowledge, attitudes, practice, and the total represent statistical significance (P<0.01), as well as the KABP level was significantly different before and after the interventions in intervention group (P<0.01).Conclusion:The current KABP levels on common safety risks of elders needs to be improved and nurses in the communities should give targeted and overall health education to the caregivers. In general, the comprehensive health education will significantly improve the KABP levels for caregivers in communities.
