Objective: To describe the mortality characteristics and its health hazards to theKunshan residents with cardio-cerebrovascular diseases from2001to2012, and toprovide the evidence for control and prevention of cardio-cerebrovascular diseases inKunshan. Methods: The mortality data of cardio-cerebrovascular diseases among Kunshanresidents between2001and2012were collected and then coded according to ICD-10introduction. Cardio-cerebrovascular diseases mortality rate, standard mortality rate,age-specific mortality rate, death composition, gender ratio, potential years of lifelost(PYLL),standard potential years of life lost (SPYLL),average years of life lost(AYLL)and were calculated and analyzed by SPSS16.0software.Results:1. Between2001and2012,13254(male6517,female6737) death casescaused by cardio-cerebrovascular diseases were reported in Kunshan city.Cardiovascular disease mortality showed an upward trend while cerebrovascular diseasemortality showed a downward trend from2010to2012, however, the overall mortalityof cardio-cerebrovascular diseases continued to maintain a high level and exponentiallyincreased with the increase of age.2. From2001-2012, the crude mortality rate of cardiovascular diseases was65.81per100000(63.53per100000in males and68.09per100000in females, respectively),the standard mortality rate was34.01per100000(33.89per100000inmales and34.31per100000in females). The differences between male and female tested using the chi-square testhad Statistical significance(P<0.05). the crude mortality rate of cerebrovasculardiseases was100.75per100000(100.58per100000in males and100.92per100000in females),the standard mortality rate was53.76per100000(54.78per100000inmales and52.92per100000in females). There were no statistical differences betweenmales and females(P=0.880).3. From2001to2012, the first five types of cardiovascular diseases leading todeath were corpulmonale, other coronary heart disease, Acute myocardial infarction, hypertensive heart disease and Chronic rheumatic heart disease.4. Between2001and2012, the mortality of cardio-cerebrovasculardiseases increased with the age. Specially, the death cases were mainly belong to thepersons between45to64and persons older than60.96.48%and98.32%of deathsCaused by Cardiovascular disease and cerebrovascular disease had happened between45to64. Among them,87.89%and86.59%of deaths happened in the age group ofolder than60.The peak rate of cardio-cerebrovascular diseases mortality was observed in the agegroup of older than85years,with2674.58per100000in cardiovascular diseases and2536.82per100000in cerebrovascular diseases, respectively.5. For cardiovascular diseases, mortality rate of females was significantly higherthan that of males, while no significant differences were observed of cerebrovasculardiseases mortality between them.6.The Potential Years of Life Lost(PYLL), Potential Years of Life LostRate(PYLLR), Standardized Potential Years of Life Lost(SPYLL), and StandardizedPotential Years of Life Lost Rate(SPYLLR) of cardio-cerebrovascular diseases in malewere all higher than that in females. The heaviest burden among cardiovascular diseasescaused to death was acute myocardial infarction which PYLL had arrived at4136person-year and PYLLR came to0.520‰.Conclusions: Cardio-cerebrovascular diseases are the primary causes of death for Kunshan residents. Therefore, much attention should be paid for their prevention, especially for the persons older than60years.
