| Objective: For the effective herbal therapies of pediatric henoch-Schonleinpurpura nephritis (HSPN), both the effectiveness and acute toxicity of theJingjie-yinhua Curing Purpura Mixture for the henoch-Schonlein purpura nephritis ofWind heat injuring collaterals type, were evaluated in this paper.Methods:45clinical cases who were taking the Jingjie-yinhua Curing PurpuraMixture for over three-month were studied. The overall therapeutic effect of thetreatment was evaluated by symptoms, the number of red blood cells in urine, andurinary protein,and revisit observation for3months. The acute toxicity test wasconducted with mouse for its safeties.Results:1). The Jingjie-yinhua Curing Purpura Mixture can effectively improvethe skin purpura and other clinical symptoms and signs caused by pediatrichenoch-Schonlein purpura nephritis,and it can shorten the length of the disease.Theeffective rate was93.33%.2). There was a significant difference between the totalscore before and after drugs therapy (P<0.01).3). There was a significant differencebetween the number of the Red blood cells before and after the treatment:(29.75±15.23,3.87±2.65respectively, P<0.01) also in protein in urine (Z=-5.162,P<0.01).4). The skin allergy, nausea, and other obvious adverse reaction duringtreatment were not found among patients.5).The recurrence rate is15.38%.6).In theacute toxicity experiment, the dosage of herbal mixture of243g (crude)/kg for permice per day also was lower than LD50, which is equivalent to104times the clinicalrecommendation amount for adults (60kg body weight). It indicates that the herbalmixture is rather safe for clinical use.3 Conclusion: The herb mixture, Jingjie-yinhua Curing Purpura Mixture; is aneffective medicine for pediatric henoch-Schonlein purpura nephritis of Wind heatinjuring collaterals type, the recurrence rate is relatively low, and both no toxicity andside effects were found. It may be widely recommend for clinical use. |
