Objective: To develop the scale of competency for clinical nursing teachers. The scale include establishing clinical nursing teachers competency basedcharacteristics items and its dimensions, which is available for selecting clinicalnursing teachers, assessing, training, and guiding Career Development and Planning. Methods: The qualitative and quantitative research method was used. Formingscale was based on the concept of the competency of clinical nursing teachers. Anditems were compiled by reviewing literature and semi-structured interviewing15undergraduate nursing students. Ten experts and ten undergraduate nursing studentsevaluated the content validity and face validity. Adopting the method of convenientsampling, we selected70nursing undergraduates of the First affiliated Hospital ofDaLian Medical University as evaluators, and28clinical nursing teachers as theobjects evaluated. Distinguish degree was used to verify of all the items;Factoranalysis was used to test the structure validity of the scale; Cronbach’s alphacoefficient was used as an index of internal consistency; The correlation coefficientof two parts was evaluated to calculated split-half reliability.Results:1. Form of initialization questionnaireThe initialization scale was established by reviewing literature andsemi-structured interview. It included37items and6dimensions: professionalquality, professional attitude, professional ability, teaching ability, interpersonalcoordination ability, personality traits.2. Selection of items and reliability and validity on the competency assessmentscale for clinical nursing teachers.2.1Selecting every item and divided into the high score group and the lowscore group, which was compared. Finally,37items are statistically significant.2.2Validity①Face validity and content validity: the content validation rate ranged from0.8to1.0. The content of scale is appropriate, comprehensive, andaccurate.②Construct validity:it is significance correlation between sub-scale andscale (P<0.01). The correlation coefficient between sub-scale and sub-scale is lessthan between sub-scale and scale.Six factors were extracted by using principal factoranalysis and varimax rotation, cumulative contribution is71.26%. The factor loadingwith each item of the scale is above0.4. The result indicated that the structure of thescale was similar to the theory construction.2.3Reliability①Internal consistency reliability: The Cronbach’s alphacoefficient of psychosocial adaptation questionnaire is0.977. Alpha coefficient of6sub-scale ranges from0.808to0.942.②Split-half reliability:0.852.Conclusion:The developed scale showed good reliability and validity. It waspractical and worthy of promotion.
