Since the policies of reform and opening up were adopted, China has undergone aseries of revolutions caused by structural factors, which include the acceleration of theprocess of urbanization, the restructuring of the population structure and the labormarket, and the higher education system which is still being reformed. A variety ofproblems such as the soaring real estate prices, dwindling energy, extreme deteriorationof the environment, and aging population make people overwhelmed, and imbalance ofeconomic development, the lures of the metropolises, the continuous increasingenrollment in higher education institutions are driving college students to flock to themetropolises with better economy for a brighter future. Although the ant tribes ingeneral have a higher level of knowledge, most of them engage in temporary jobs suchas jobs in the sales, catering, service sections. This is the ant tribes, who have dreamsfor the future but live above the survival line but less than in a well-off state. The anttribes have confidence to enter the circles of the elites or elites-to-be in china throughown efforts. But when they find out that their efforts to get rid of their current situationare in vain and cannot get the deserved social identity, they will turn to questioning andcontemplating on the social reality and express their dissatisfaction towards the society.The ant tribes, in actuality, are an unstable factor of the society. In the current state ofimmobility of social classes, the members of vulnerable groups will strengthen theidentity of their own groups, require the society to reassess its negative evaluation, oreven unite to against the unreasonable political and social system.The paper mainly consists of five parts. The first part outlines the paper’s relevanttheories, including the concept and characteristics of ant tribe and social identity theory.The second part discusses the social background and the reasons why the ant tribescome into being. The third part makes analyses of the situation of the ant tribes’ socialidentity. The fourth part explores its prospects and the changes of identity towards themfrom society. The conclusion part is about the author’s thoughts about issues related toant tribes while the paper is written and suggestions for the solutions.
