According to the organizational structure of my thinking in this treatise, mainly divided into three parts, we need to cross the thresholds, in the first step, by tracing back to the main characteristics of arid oases through relational literatures review and theoretical analysis of systems science. Secondly, the relationship between mankind and earth will be argued in depth, which provides a comprehensive and rigorous account of theories about the regional systems of oasis and the urban-rural relationship systems of oasis, and then a developmental mode of urban-rural integrating specifically applicable to arid oases is introduced. Finally, a conceptual planning analysis of sustainable and coordinated development of both the towns and villages in Minqin Oasis is carried out, as a practical application, on the basis of the approaches and measures proposed in the last step. Conclusions of this thesis are mainly embodied in the principles and practice of urban-rural integrating in arid oases. On the whole, there are about four pieces of fundamental principles:(1) as to the first one, the integral principle, it means that the ecological environment protection should be regarded as equally important as the social and economic progress in arid oases, agreeing with the fact that the human society has close links with many other geographical and environmental essentials, and (2) as to the second one, hierarchical principle refers to their multi-layered arrangement of spatial distribution for ecological shelterbelts and towns, and (3)as to the principle of openness, the opening of oasis systems in the process of social and economic development is emphasized to overcome its closed characteristics which is not conducive to the flow of productive factors, but (4) turn to the last one, what we call relatively closed principle, shelterbelts in the intermediate zones between oases and deserts should be well constructed to maintain its closed spatial characteristics through which the ecological security of oases is guaranteed. On the basis of principles enumerated above, several principal pieces of aspects about the urban-rural integrating development planning in a specific oasis, Minqin Oasis, is listed, including ecological safety being considered firstly (e.g. ecological protecting forests planting, ecological agriculture production), balancing urban and rural development (e.g. economic growth poles promotion, comprehensive-functioned groups cultivation, newly countryside construction), and ecological industries agglomeration (i.e. ecological industries and agriculture parks).
