AimTo understand the status quo and problems of nursing human resources allocation inunattended wards, including the quantity, the education background、length of service、professional title、age、sex ratio of nurses and the nurses career satisfaction degree;Toidentify the actual workload of nurses and draw the standards of allocation of nursinghuman resources by calculating the nursing workload in unattended wards.Participants and methodsSix3-Grade general hospitals in Shandong Province were random selected.Aself-designed questionnaire was used to investigate for30unattended wards and300nurses,All the data is analyzed by SPSS13.0.Nine unattended representative wards wereselected and the frequencies of60direct nursing items and42indirect nursing items weremeasured.According to the formula to calculate the nursing workload and nursingpersonnel.Result1.The status quo of nursing human resources allocation in unattended wards:Thenumber of beds and nurses were1080and540,the ratio of ward bed and nurse was1:0.50.The basic present situation of nursing human resources was also investigated in theunattended wards, including the education background, professional title, length ofservice, the nurse’s age, sex. We can see the nurses had junior college education and highereducation were97.22%;length of service were rational;the professional title indicated thatthe primary level were in the majority(90.00%) and the sex structure indicated that femalewere in the majority(99.07%).The overall score of the nurses’ job satisfaction was(3.31±0.42),the levels were at medium, which scored the highest was the satisfaction withcolleagues (3.84±0.71),while the lowest was the satisfaction with rewards (2.55±0.90).2.The nursing workload in unattended wards:Through the measurement of the nursingworkload we can know the average time of total daily nursing time was96.9±2.2h,directand indirect nursing time was64.8±0.8h and32.1±1.3h;in the total nursing time,66.9%of it was direct nursing time;most ward were found to be lack of nurses at various degrees andthe shortage rate of nurses was75.0%.Conclusion1.In unattended wards, the education background and length of service of nurses wererational while the quantity, professional title, age and sex ratio were not rational and thenurses career satisfaction degree was low.Rational nursing human resource allocation andscientific assessment of the value of nursing services, the establishment of reasonable salarysystem and attention to nursing development are important in improving nurses’ jobsatisfaction and the quality of nursing services.2.The results indicate that the direct nursing time is64.8±0.8h(66.9%),the indirectnursing time is32.1±1.3h(33.1%) and the average daily nursing time is96.9±2.2h,nurseswere under the overload condition;the ideal average rate of the bed and nurse should be1:0.6.The nursing workload is the reference for designing the nursing human resourcesallocation. The allocation of nursing staff should be based on actual workload measurementand the study indicate the rational bed-nurse ratio is1:0.6in unattended wards....
