ObjectiveMineral elements play an important role in sustaining human life by participating in the body’s metabolism, physiology, biochemical reaction, energy transformation. The function of mineral elements is related to the content of elements in our body. At the certain range, the normal structure and function can be maintained. When the concentration of the elements is below or above the need of the body, the normal function of the body can be affected. It could cause the deficiency of the mineral elements, toxicities and even the death of our body. In this present study, we determined the contents of potassium (K), sodium (Na), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), copper (Cu), iron (Fe), and zinc (Zn) in serum of4210people in Junan. By this study, we want to understand:1The medical reference range of K, Na, Ca, Mg, Cu, Fe and Zn in the serum of the people.2The internal relationships between the contents of K, Na, Ca, Mg, Cu, Fe and Zn in serum and diabetes mellitus, hyperlipaemia, obesity, virus B hepatitis and some common women’s diseases(breast tumor, fibroid, menstrual colic). This study results could provide certain references and basis to study the relationship between the mineral elements concentration and the diseases, then to make reasonable dietary guideline.Methods1The choice of investigated objectsThe selected sample villages should be able to represent the background level of Junan in geographical environment, economic level and social environment, and the population turnover should be small and have a good compliance. The inhabitants in the sample towns were chosen as the investigation objects of this research.2Inquiry and investigationThe questionnaires were finished by each resident by face to face interview as a unit. The questionnaires included basic condition of family members, personal health condition monitoring table, chronic disease situations in half a year, married women (15~49years old) health questionnaire and so on(Attachment chart A-H)3Health examinationsThe heights, weight, waistline and the blood pressure of the selected people were measured, and then determined their fasting blood glucose, total cholesterol, triglyceride, high density lipoprotein cholesterol, low density lipoprotein cholesterol and hepatitis B in the serum.4Determination of the concentrations of K, Na, Ca, Mg, Cu, Fe and Zn in serumThe concentrations of K, Na, Ca, Mg, Cu, Fe and Zn in serum were by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer.5The confirming of the medical reference range of K, Na, Ca, Mg, Cu, Fe and Zn concentrations in serumThe SPSS16.0statistical analysis software was used to get the medical reference range of the elements, and then the comparisons of the level of the seven essential elements between man and women were analyzed.6The study of the relationship between the content of K, Na, Ca, Mg, Cu, Fe and Zn in serum and some chronic diseasesThe investigated objects were separately divided into diabetes mellitus group, hyperlipidaemia group, virus B hepatitis group, obesity group, breast tumor group, fibroid group, menstrual colic group and their corresponding control groups. And then the SPSS16.0statistical software was used to discuss the relationship between the content of K, Na, Ca, Mg, Cu, Fe and Zn in serum and diseases.Results1The result of the choice of the investigation objects4210people were selected for the research from6sample villages in Junan followed the methods.2The methodological study of the content of K, Na, Ca, Mg, Cu, Fe and Zn in serum with flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer2.1K:a good linear response was obtained over the range of0.2-4mg/L with correlation coefficient0.9992, the standard curve was Y=0.0685X+0.0064,the detection limits was0.147mg/L, the inter-day RSD were2.11%,1.45%,1.22%, the intra-day RSD were5.31%,4.66%,6.21%, the recoveries were98.0%,97.2%,101.0%.2.2Na:a good linear response was obtained over the range of1~5mg/L with correlation coefficient0.9987, the standard curve was Y=0.1851X+0.0229,the detection limits was0.055mg/L, the inter-day RSD were2.98%,2.21%,1.87%, the intra-day RSD were2.56%,3.82%,4.28%, the recoveries were97.3%,101.8%,101.0%.2.3Ca:a good linear response was obtained over the range of0.5~10mg/L with correlation coefficient0.9998, the standard curve was Y=0.0219X+0.0024,the detection limits was0.181mg/L, the inter-day RSD were2.57%,1.81%,2.09%, the intra-day RSD were3.53%,4.27%,5.32%, the recoveries were96.7%,98.2%,94.4%。2.4Mg:a good linear response was obtained over the range of0.05~1mg/L with correlation coefficient0.9998, the standard curve was Y=0.2176X+0.0021,the detection limits was0.025mg/L, the inter-day RSD were2.43%,2.09%,1.67%, the intra-day RSD were4.56%,5.10%,5.73%, the recoveries were100.6%,106.7%,98.2%.2.5Cu:a good linear response was obtained over the range of0.1~1.6mg/L with correlation coefficient0.9996, the standard curve was Y=0.0203X+0.0002,the detection limits was0.021mg/L, the inter-day RSD were0.99%,1.21%,0.79%, the intra-day RSD were2.61%,2.45%,2.26%, the recoveries were103.3%,98.3%,100.5%.2.6Fe:a good linear response was obtained over the range of0.05~1mg/L with correlation coefficient0.9995, the standard curve was Y=0.0339X+0.0006,the detection limits was0.032mg/L, the inter-day RSD were1.32%,0.98%,0.57%, the intra-day RSD were2.83%,2.46%,2.61%, the recoveries were93.3%,103.3%,98.2%.2.7Zn:a good linear response was obtained over the range of0.02~0.4mg/L with correlation coefficient0.9976, the standard curve was Y=0.1740X+0.0024,the detection limits was0.015mg/L, the inter-day RSD were1.68%,1.42%,0.99%, the intra-day RSD were1.95%,2.36%,2.28%, the recoveries were98.6%,93.3%,102.2%.3The medical reference range of K, Na, Ca, Mg, Cu, Fe and Zn concentrations in serumThe medical reference range of K, Na, Ca, Mg, Cu, Fe and Zn concentrations in serum were83.44~296.94mg/L,2.00~3.67g/L,23.27~284.10mg/L,8.48~35.06mg/L,0.38~1.49mg/L,0.81~4.21mg/L and0.34~3.66mg/L in male,82.60~312.00mg/L,2.29~3.72g/L,26.94~308.29mg/L,8.52~35.83mg/L,0.42~1.59mg/L,0.77~3.98mg/L and0.33~4.36mg/L in female.Compared with male, the contents of Ca in female was significantly higher (P<0.05).The Fe concentration in male was higher than female (P<0.01).
