OBJECTIVE To compare the influence of two different health educationways on self-management ability and self-efficacy of patients with coronary heartdesease (CHD) which included empowerment education and tranditional healtheducation.METHODS196patients with CHD were randomly divided into2groups,namely empowerment education group(n=98) and tranditional health educationgroup(n=98). And all patients were trained respectively according to correspondinghealth education plan of each group by professional worker. these patients filled outthe Essential Information Questionnaire(EIQ). Self-Efficacy Integration Scale (SEIS)and Coronary artery disease Self-management Scale(CSMS) at baseline,3monthsand6months after health education. And contrast the difference of clinical index intwo groups such as body mass index, waistline, blood pressure, blood glucose andblood lipid.RESULTS1. Admission days, number of implant-stents, time of diseasehistory, lesion vessels, degree of vascular lesions, implant-time and implant-positonof stent, sex, profession, education background, payment means has no statisticaldifference in two groups.2,Respective correlation analysis was made among25possible clinical factors with self-management ability and self-efficacy in two groups, and multi-stepwise regression analysis was made among factors with statisticaldifference with self-management ability with self-efficacy, the regression equation ofself-management ability was:Y=31.130+0.347(self-efficacy)+0.216(time of diseasehistory)+0.306(profession)+0.201(age) and self-efficacy was:Y=0.446(implant-timeof stent)+0.134(self-management ability)-2.573.3.The score of self-managementability and the score of self-efficacy in the empowerment education group wassignificantly more than that of the tranditional health education group in3monthsand6months after health education, p<0.01, and this difference between two goupsstill persist on6months after health education. However, the score ofsymptom-maintaining in the SEIS and self-management of addiction, emergency, lifestyle and knowledge of diseases in the CSMS appeared to drop in the tranditional health education group, p>0.05.CONCLUSIONS Empowerment education can significantly improve andincrease the self-management ability and self-efficacy of patients with CHD, and thisfunction of empowerment education was proved more enduring than that oftranditional health education. So, empowerment education will be a new style ofhealth education in the new model of clinical medicine instead of tranditional healtheducation.
