Effect evaluation: The primary caregivers were evaluated for coronary heart disease knowledge, beliefs, behavioral questionnaires and Caregiver Preparedness Scale(CPS)before intervention and discharge.Positive Aspects of Caregiving(PAC),Self-rating Anxiety Scale(SAS)were evaluated three times, which involved pre-intervention,at discharge and 4 weeks after discharge.Objectives1.Applying the empowerment education to the primary caregivers of patients with coronary heart disease after PCI,instructing the primary caregivers about coronary heart disease and care-related knowledge, and providing empowerment education based on the questionnaires about the knowledge, beliefs and behaviors holding by the primary caregivers;2.To explore the effects of empowerment education on the positive feelings, care readiness, and anxiety of the primary caregiver during the hospitalization of the patient, and the impact of the primary caregivers’ positive feelings and anxiety 4 weeks after discharge;3.To explore the effect of empowerment education on primary caregivers of patients with coronary heart disease after PCI,and drawing more attention to the primary caregiver group from the researcher’s,and to provide reference for applying empowerment education on more patients with different disease and primary caregivers..Methods1.Subjects: From March 2019 to December 2019,72 patients with coronary heart disease who underwent PCI for the first time were came from a Third-Grade Class-A Hospital in Chengdu.Their main caregivers were randomly divided into experimental and control groups, with 36 cases in each group.2.Intervention method: A pre-test was conducted from November 2018 to February 2019 to found and solve the problems found in the pre-test and form the final version of the intervention plan.A formal study was conducted from March 2019 to December 2019.Patients in the control group received routine cardiology treatment and care, and routine health education for the primary caregiver; The experimental group implemented empowerment education for the primary caregiverbased on the control group. The content includes: one-to-one empowerment education during hospitalization, teaching the main caregivers about the knowledge of coronary heart disease, conducting psychological counseling, answering care questions, and formulating care plans based on the situation of the main caregivers.Telephone follow-up was performed once every week for 4weeks after discharge.3.Effect evaluation: The primary caregivers were evaluated for coronary heart disease knowledge, beliefs, behavioral questionnaires and Caregiver Preparedness Scale(CPS)before intervention and discharge. The Positive Aspects of Caregiving(PAC)and Self-rating Anxiety Scale(SAS)were used for evaluation before the intervention,at the time of discharge and at the 4th week of intervention.ResultA total of 69 subjects completed the study. One case fell off in the test group and two cases fell off in the control group. The findings are as follows:1.Coronary heart disease knowledge, belief, behavior questionnaire(1)The comparison results between the groups showed that the scores of coronary heart disease knowledge, beliefs, and behavior questionnaires of the main caregivers in the experimental group were higher than those in the control group(P <0.05).(2)Pairwise comparison results within the group showed: The scores of coronary heart disease knowledge, beliefs, and behavior questionnaires of the main caregivers in the experimental group were higher than those before intervention(P <0.05);For the control group,The scores of coronary heart disease knowledge, the belief and behavior questionnaires were higher than those before the intervention(P <0.05).2.Caregiver Preparedness Scale(1)The comparison between the groups showed that the CPS scores of the main caregivers in the experimental group at the time of discharge from the two groups were higher than those of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P <0.05).(2)Pairwise comparison results within the group showed: The CPS score of the main caregivers in the experimental group was higher than that before the intervention, and the difference was statistically significant(P <0.05);The CPS score of the main caregivers in the control group was higher than the intervention when discharged. Before, the difference was statistically significant(P <0.05).3.Positive Aspects of Caregiving(1)The comparison results between the groups showed that: at the time of discharge, the score of the self-affirmation dimension and the total PAC score of the test group were higher than those of the control group during the same period, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05);There was no significant difference in the scores of the life expectancy dimension of the experimental group and the scores of the control group over the same period.(P >0.05).At 4 weeks after discharge, the scores of the different dimensions and total scores of PAC in the test group were higher than those in the control group during the same period, and the differences were statistically significant(P <0.05).(2)The results of repeated measures analysis of variance showed that: the differences in the effect of life expectancy between the two groups were not statistically significant(P> 0.05);the differences between the other dimensions and total scores were statistically significant between groups, time effects, and interaction effects(P <0.05).(3)The pairwise comparison results within the group showed that: The scores of different dimensions total scores of PAC in the experimental group at the time of discharge and 4 weeks after discharge were higher than those before the intervention, and the differences were statistically significant(P <0.05);The same data in the experimental group at 4 week after discharge were higher than the time of discharge, the difference was statistically significant(P <0.05);The self-affirmation dimension of the control group: There was no statistically significant difference between the time of discharge and 4 weeks before the intervention compared with that before the intervention(P >0.05);Compared the scores at4 weeks of discharge with the scores at the time of discharge, the difference was not statistically significant(P >0.05).Dimensions of life prospects: There was no significant difference between the time of discharge and before the intervention,4 weeks after discharge and the time of discharge(P >0.05);the difference between the 4 weeks after discharge and before the intervention was statistically significant(P <0.05).Total PAC score: There was no significant difference between discharge and pre-intervention(P> 0.05);there was a significant difference between discharge at 4 weeks and pre-intervention as well as discharge(P <0.05).4.Self-rating Anxiety Scale(1)The comparison results between the groups showed that the SAS scores of the experimental group at the time of discharge and 4 weeks after discharge were lower than those of the control group during the same period, and the difference was statistically significant(P <0.05).(2)The results of repeated measures analysis of variance showed that the differences in SAS scores between groups, time effects, and interaction effects were statistically significant(P <0.05).(3)The pairwise comparison results within the group showed that: The SAS scores in the experimental group at the time of discharge and 4 weeks after discharge were significantly lower than those before intervention as well as(P <0.05);The SAS scores at 4 weeks were significantly lower than after discharge.(P <0.05);There was no significant difference of the SAS score in the control group between the time of discharge and before the intervention(P >0.05).There was significant difference between 4 weeks after discharge and before intervention as well as the time of discharge(P <0.05).Conclusion1.Empowerment education for primary caregivers of patients with coronary heart disease after PCI can improve their knowledge, beliefs and behaviors of coronary heart disease.2.Empowerment education for primary caregivers of patients with coronary heart disease after PCI can improve their caregiver readiness.3.Empowerment education for primary caregivers of patients with coronary heart disease after PCI can increase the positive feelings of their caregivers.4.Empowerment education for primary caregivers of patients with coronary heart disease after PCI can improve the anxiety of primary caregivers.
