| Objectives To describe the status of sub-health and prevalence of suicide behaviors among freshmen and sophomores in two of local colleges in Wenzhou City. The scale of"Multidimensional Sub-health Questionnaire of Adolescents"(MSQA)was the major tool to screen sub-health of students; and to explore influencing factors of college students'sub-health. To investigate the relationship between sub-health and suicide psychological behavior for providing evidences for future intervention measures in force.Methods This research is a cross-sectional study on sub-health status and suicide psychological behavior status in view of freshmen and sophomores in two local colleges in Wenzhou City. Simple cluster sampling method was used to. Self-administered questionnaire and MSQA was major tool to collect information. Pearson Chi-square and Multivariate Logistic Regression were major statistical methods using in the study.Results In this research, there were totally 894 students recruited in the investigation, among which, two hundred and eighty-one students were male (31.43%), six hundreds and thirteen were female (68.57%). The prevalence of body sub-health was 15.1% (male 14.6%, female 15.3% ), and the rate of psychological sub-health was 7.8% (male 5.7%, female 8.8% ), the rate of physicopsychic sub-health was 9.4% (male 5.7%, female 11.1%), the rate of self-reported suicide idea was 9.06% (male 8.54%, female 9.30% ), the rate of suicide plan was 1.90% (male 1.78%, female 1.96%), the rate of suicide preparation was 1.01%, and of the rate of suicide attempt was 0.45%.Personal and family features like one-child-family, discipline of parents, study grades and gender were influencing factors of sub-health: the odds risk of body sub-health for non-only child was 0.640 (95%CI : 0.413-0.901)compared with the only child. Risk of body sub-health for the students with less discipline by parents was 1.758 (95% CI: 1.038-2.979)compared with those more. Risk of psychological sub-health for the students with worse study grades was 2.531 (95% CI: 1.088-5.885) compared with those better. Risk of physicopsychic sub-health status for boys was 0.461 (95% CI: 0.258-0.821) compared with girls.Sub-health was associated with suicide psychological behavior: the risk of suicide idea for the persons who is in sub-health was 2.17 (95% CI: 1.10-4.3) compared with those healthy. Risk of suicide plan for the persons who was psychological sub-health was 10.62 (95% CI: 1.28-88.46) compared with those healthy. Risk of suicide preparation for the persons who are psychological sub-health was 20.36 (95% CI: 2.12-195.96) compared with those healthy.In MSQA, Pearson coefficient of correlation, Cronbach'sαand split-half correlation are 0.846, 0.914 and 0.922. Factor analysis was adopted to extract 14 major factors, and the total contribution is 61.57%. The cut-off points for screening standards of sub-health status were 2, 6, 8. The prevalence of physicopsychic sub-health among college students was 9.4% which was similar to the value of national norm.Conclusion In this study, MSQA was assessed well in reliability and structural validity, which is suitable to the college students population in China. The prevalence of sub-health status and suicide behaviors among college students in Wenzhou City were similar with the level of nationwide. Personal and family features like only-child, less discipline by parents, worse study grades and girls are damage factors of sub-health. The relationship between sub-health status and psychological behavior of suicide are confirmed, and the former may be the risk factor of the latter one. In the further study, some effective intervention plans regarding the both should be detailed in order to prompt adolescent's health. |
