Objective To explore the practice teaching mode of community nursing course, improve the comprehensive quality of the students who major in higher vocational nursing and to encourage the students to work in community voluntarily; To relieve the short supply of community health care attendants and propagate health knowledge among community residents; Set up a long term cooperation mechanism between community and school.Methods The course of community nursing with 120 teaching hours is distributed at the proportion of 1:2 according to lecture and community practice, and the total 548 students participated in the community health service practice. The self-made questionnaire is used to survey their job expectations and the influencing factors in job seeking. Through counting students'accomplishment on theory and practice as well as the appraisal of clinical nursing teachers, the influence of community health practice teaching mode on teaching effects will be comprehensively analyzed. Another questionnaire was used to know the influences of students'participating in the community health practice on community nursing and find out community inhabitant's satisfaction about community nursing before and after the students' participation.Results1. Academic records After the community health practice, the proportion of excellent in the test among 548 students was 16.24%in mid-term exam and 26.28% in the final exam. There was statistical significance (P<0.001), besides there was no student failing the exam. The percentage of excellent, good, fair, and poor respectively:7.48%,43.61%,46.71%,2.74%in mid-term exam,33.58%,46.90%, 19.52%,0.00%in final exam, there was statistical significance (H=123.9, P<0.001). 2. Employment preference The proportion of students who are willing to work in the community after graduation was as follows:3.28%at the beginning of the term, while 28.28%at the end of the term, there was statistical significance (P<0.001);3. Teachers'appraisal The students had enhanced a lot in nursing practice skill grasping, the language expression, communication and so on, and the difference between mid-term and final exam was statistically different (P<0.001). The teachers thought students'overall quality had been improved greatly after community health practice, (t=27.81 P<0.001).4. Community nursing The proportion of the community health education and the family nursing work rose from 9.75%,2.84%to 21.76%,11.71%separately. Some aspects were improved, such as the frequency of home visits by the community nurse, the number of the people receiving health education, the propaganda blackboard newspaper frequency, the community healthy file establishment there was statistical significance (P<0.001).5. Community residents'satisfactionThe rate of community residents'satisfaction in the hygienic knowledge increased from 11.86%to 66.77%, there was statistical significance (χ2=213.58 P<0.001); The rate of community residents who show satisfaction to the community nursing rose from original 50.61%to 88.14%, there was statistical significance (χ2=136.88 P<0.001); The rate of community residents'knowledge about disease prevention and control rose from 30.51%to 94.67%, there was statistical significance (χ2=363.11 P<0.001).Conclusions1. The community nursing practice is the effective way to train the comprehensive nursing skills of the students.2.The community nursing practice changed the students'concept on job seeking, expanded the employment opportunities, and the proportion of the students who choose community nursing as their job has increased remarkably.3. The community nursing practice promoted community health education and home nursing development, enhanced the community residents'understanding to the community health service, and strengthened the community residents'health consciousness.4. The community nursing practice benefited school, community and other participants. A long-term cooperation mechanism between school and community health organizations can be established.
