The University Library Recommended Purchase Decision-making Support Systems Research

Literature acquisition is the starting point of document processing in university libraries. Also, as the foundation of the next work flow, it determines the quality of library collection, and thus determines to a large extent the service quality of university libraries. Nowadays university libraries' acquisition of literature is confronted with more and more difficulties, such as high-flotation price of literature, limited funds, fast accelerating rate of information producing, etc. In addition, being lack of professional knowledge, the literature acquisition staff always has great difficulties, in the decision-making on document acquisition. To resolve these issues, some experts try to combine scientific acquisition rules and computer technologies to construct some literature acquisition decision support systems. However, there are still a lot of deficiencies in present systems, for example, the assessing of the value of books mainly depends on subjective judgment of the acquisition staffer or on simple deducing, which is far from accurate, and can't meet the needs of the practice work.With the developing of network and the modernization of library, recommending-based purchase systems were designed. They can integrate massive disorderly directory for document subscription into a standardized and orderly source of information that can be published on the Internet and thus support library readers to give their needs and advices on literature acquisition through the Internet. Recommending-based purchase system has transformed the traditional acquisition model into a collective model, in which libraries can make full use of the information about readers' needs and evaluation to make literature acquisition decision, and then, enhance the efficiency and quality of literature acquisition. Therefore, based on the previous purchase systems and some relative research outcome, this thesis brings forward some models, such as acquisitions funds apportioning model, documents evaluation model as well as duplication apportioning model, to help the acquisition staff make more reasonable and accurate decision when purchase books.Our system is based on the recommending-based purchase system. In order to clarify the circumstance of our research, this thesis first introduces the origin, definition, types and characteristics of recommending-based purchase system, then, it analyses the deficiencies of the present systems, besides, it bring up a enhanced prototype to resolve the existing problems. Based on this, our study clarifies the research object, a decision supporting system for the recommending-based purchase system, and its important role in recommending-based purchase system. In addition, we analyze the major content of decision supporting system. To construct the system, we also give three models and discuss the relationship between the three and the factors that have great effect on the three aspects. Finally, we design a decision supporting system for the recommending-based purchase system, and as an example, we try to analyze its application in Southwest University Library.
