In recent years, the Internet has had an emphatic development. In the Web 2.0 era, SNS (Social Networking Services) has launched a strong upsurge in the short period and had a wide social impact. When the SNS network becomes the regular choice for more people, the value of SNS not only represents the progress of the Web 2.0 era, but rather further lies in the impact of individual interpersonal communication. Interpersonal communication network is becoming a hot spot.In this paper, the characteristics of interpersonal communication networks are discussed based on the survey of China's largest network (www.renren.com). Online survey research methods are adopted among the students of the Southwest University and the Shanghai International Studies University. By empirical research, we found that, compared with E-mail, MSN, QQ and other forms of interpersonal communication networks, SNS represented by www.renren.com is a new way of social networking, in which, remotely interaction between college students is fully met as well as the understanding needs, emotional needs and integration needs.Micro content plays an important role in meeting the needs of the audience. The combination of micro-content,search engine and label,"long tail"embodied in the micro-content and interaction between the audience makes micro-content(eg. a simple link, an easy log) have unique impacts to the interpersonal communication for the university students.SNS has some positive effects for students'interpersonal communication such as providing platform for dissemination of information and communication. At the same time, many negative effects are produced: too much time is spent on the interpersonal communication and addiction is formed. Even if someone accused the network society a virtual community and false element may exist in the network information, but through the investigation, we found that SNS users are more inclined to use real personal information and believe the authenticity of the user information. However, due to the instant characteristic of the network, interpersonal communication in SNS merely maintains a low level of dating status, and strong social relationship is difficult to form. Those who wants to develop deeper relationship will still take the traditional form of dating, rather than through the network media.Through empirical method of investigation, this paper aims to explore the interpersonal communication significance the campus SNS produced among college students. And it mainly focuses on the SNS significance of interpersonal communication the micro-elements has.
