ObjectionThis study was designed to investigate the correlation between anxiety, depression and personality characteristics of younger clients with coronary artery disease, and its clinical significance. MethodsThis study is a non-experimental descriptive correlative study. 120 subjects were selected out in the Second Affiliated Hospital of ShanXi Medical University from April 2005 to January 2006 by simple sampling. All patients were evaluated by the Demographic Information Sheet, Hamilton Anxiety Scale(HAMA, a modified 14-item version), Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD, a modified 24-item version), Eysenck Personality Questionnaire-Revised,Short Scale for Chinese(EPQ-RSC) respectively. Data were analyzed using by Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) 12.0. The degree of E,N,P dimension of clients with anxiety were significantly higher than those of clients without anxiety. The degree of E,N,P dimension of clients with depression were significantly higher than those of clients without depression.4. There was a significantly notable positive correlation between the degree of HAMA and the degree of HAMD of clients with CAD (r=0.736,p<0.001), but correlation between the degree of E dimension of EPQ-RSC and the degree of HAMD was notable negative (r=-0.536,p<0.01).There was a notable positive correlation between the degree of E dimension of EPQ-RSC and the degree of HAMA of clients with CAD (r=0.273,p<0.01);and there was a positive correlation between the degree of N,P dimension and the degree of HAMA (r=0.202,r=0.217,p<0.05).5. E,N, P dimension of Personality and depression were valid variables can predict anxiety occurrence of clients with CAD, these can explain 87.14% of the variation; the coefficient of Beta distinguishes to 0.81,0.14,0.12,0.14. E dimension of Personality and anxiety were valid variables can predict depression occurrence of clients with CAD, these can explain 89.14% of the variation; the coefficient of Beta distinguishes to 0.71,-0.25, 0.10.
