Objective: To interview 382 individuals and evaluate their oral food impaction condition., including the prevalence, characteristics, pathology, etc. To study the efectiveness of proximal contacts in ClassII cavity restorations with composite-resin-ball technique and the removable obturator made of elastic bionic materials. Methods: 382 patients were investigated by both enquiry and clinical examination. Statistics was done with SPSS17.0. The restoration contacts were clinically evaluated at baseline and the food impaction sympoms at 1 and 3mo recal1.With the removable obturator made of elastic bionic materials at weeks 1and 4 following treatment, all patients were surveyed by questionnaires to investigate wearing comforts. Results: The prevalence rate of food impaction was 82.2%, which reached the highest rate at 89.2% in the 40-59 years group. There were no significant difference between sex and nation (P<0.05) .Despite many factors, periodontitis played the main role in the incidence of food impaction. There were significant difference in nation (P<0.001) .The impaction types were mainly hybrid and vertical impaction. The use of composite-resin-ball tech niuqe results in higher rate of acceptbale porximal contacts in composite rstorations of ClassII cavity. They were all satisfied with the obturator after twelve weeks treatment. Conclusion: Food impaction was of larger prevalence, many factors and lower cure. The use of composite-resin-ball techniuqe results in higher rate of composite estorations of ClassII caivties and thus lower rate of food impaction. With good histocompatibility, the removable obturator made of elastic denture materials has been proved to be well histocompatible, acceptable and effective for the patients who suffer from food impaction in the short term.
