Food impaction is the phenomenon appearing in the chewing course when the food dregs or fibers are pushed into the clearance by occlusal force or owning to the gingival shrinkage. It's a disease of high prevalence in population. As it always cause inconvenience and insupportable pain to the victims, it has become one of the most common complain in dental services.It may cause halitosis, gingivalitis, periodontitis, gingival abscess, alveolar bone absorption, or root caries etc. Since food impaction is a disease of chronic procession, people usually paid un-enough attention to it and would be more likely to neglect its maintaining treatment. The dental practitioners had tried many ways to solve the problem. The fixed prosthetics include inlay-crown, full crown, resin crown or filling. And the removable prosthetics include hard splint and soft artificial gingival. However, they did not work well as expected, since the pathologies and the local dental anatomical situations are various and complex. The dentist should not only take the patients' financial potential into consideration, but also pay more attention to the threatening of the operations to the teeth bulk and pulp tissue when employing the fixed prosthetic techniques, while the removable preventors would bring strange feelings and are not convenient for wearing and removing, which makes the patients' unwillingness to wear them. Thus, how to solve food impaction morerapidly, effectively, and economically on behalf of the patient is worthy of our efforts. Besides personalizing the patients' pathology and treatment plan, the innovation of prosthetic materials and the improvement of the operating skills may contribute to the success.The purpose of this project was to apply the invisa-denture material and resin material respectively in treating the horizontal food impaction. This project has also made an interview of 283 patients for F.I epidemic analysis. The results were indicated as follow:1. The invisa-denture material splint worked better both functionally and esthetically, compared with traditional splint.2. The resin prosthetic skill is simple and effective, while does no hurts to the teeth bulk. Since it may fall within a period of time, it could be used as a temporary treating method for F.I.3. F.I is of a large prevalence and low cure rate. It's caused by physiological factors while the oral hygienic status especially the periodontitis plays a promoting role in its development.The results suggested that the invisa-denture material as well as the resin material is good choices in F.I treating, but there are still problems needs further investigation.
