This paper discusses the 3D design of the Standard Parts library which is made up of bolt, nut and bearing etc. On the base of Pro/ENGINEER, we develop the system which could automatically build the parametric model of the Standard Parts with the help of Pro/TOOLKIT, Visual C++ and Access. The main tasks of this paper are how to build parametric model of the Standard Parts, and maintenance the Standard Parts library.Only has the application been compiled, registered and unpacked, it could be run in Pro/ENGINEER. This paper discusses the way of compiling file and registering application. Using the technology of Pro/TOOLKIT, we edit the menu, create and activate them in application to realize the simple user interface, but it is difficult to create resource files when we need complicate dialogs with graphics to get parameters information. After solving the Problem of Pro/TOOLKIT communicating with Visual C++ and the Problem of MFC communicating with database, we can easily create any type dialogs we want.The system classify the standard parts and common-used parts. Using the user define feature and Relations in Pro/ENGINEER, we build the database of parametric models of the standard parts. And using Access to store the parameters of the standard parts. In application, we call the file describes the geometry information of models and select the parameter to build instantiate of UDF. So the standard parts can be created automatically based these.The whole system is designed according to software engineering development thought and Object-Oriented Modeling (OOM) method. The whole system is divided into Create, Add, Delete and Modify .it encapsulates the child modules to dynamic link library. So, it makes the system structure clear, modification and call convenient, reuse efficiency high. In a word, this system has characteristic of interface friendly, easy developing, easy maintaining, easy expanding etc. The experience of using this system shows it improves the efficiency of design more than 50%.
