Parametric design, as an entirely new method of design, has been introduced abroad by industry. Such characteristics as the efficiency, practicabilities etc. that it has made it the direction of future design. It determines design efficiency and the height of designing quality and power of enterprise's key competitiveness of enterprise directly to design the level of the application level in parameter. This is concerning the important issue of survival and development for a long time of enterprises.This thesis has introduced research dynamic status of domestic and international CAD technology, theory of parameter technology and the current research situation, secondary development current situation of Pro/Engineer. On this foundation, fully use the function of Pro/Engineer's secondary development tool such as Pro/Program, Pro/Toolkit and Family Table, carry on the research and development of parameter design. Using Pro/Program to carry on the parameter modeling of the involute cylinder gear, this model can generate helical gear, left-spur gear, right-spur gear and shifted gear through selection in a flexible way. Through intuitionistic suggestion input method of parameter can generate models. Furthermore, you can select building hub, spoke etc. of gear or not. It has some directive significance to automatic modeling of all kinds of complicated parts. You can select building single-row, double-row or three-row chain wheel through the parameter model. Besides, you can select the structure type of hub. On this basis, using Pro/Toolkit and VC ++6.0 programming environment further, develop gear, sprocket modeling systems of parameter. This system has intuitionistic, friendly frame interfaces, including gear and sprockets of different types, inputting some basic parameters can generate the corresponding 3D model while using. This system gives the great facility to the work of 3D modeling of the gear. Through customizing 3D template and 2D drawing template, Improving the efficiency of using Pro/Engineer modeling greatly, bringing the result that gets twice the result with half the effort to the establishment of the 2D drawing and BOM (Bill of material) too. Using the strong function of Family Table, it has established the standard part library and realized the integration of the part library and Pro/Engineer. It can transfer directly conveniently. This part library reduces product design to standard component tedious and repeated work in the design. The method of building library mentioned in the article that has certain popularization nature, users in the special application can expand the standard part library that oneself need and library in common use, improving the developing efficiency and quality.
