This paper studies on a kind of equipment of bank note recognizing & code reading which has good market potential and could bring about considerable profit. The top concern of development is how to read the image of bank paper and then recognize its code exactly .In consideration of cost and uers' convenience, single chip computer or DSP is used in the hardware design.This paper introduces the process of developing the equipment in detail. The process of reading and recognizing the bank paper's image includes two parts: reading the image and recognizing its code. Firstly, a rapid and exact method of character recognizing based on image recognition and process theory is presented according to the characteristics of letters and Arabic numerals. In this system the recognizing modes are few, but the high exactness and speed must be guaranteed. A emulation program demonstrates that the image manipulation process and identifitcation algorithm are both satisfactory. Secondly, the interface and coordination of time order are analyzed in light of the principle of CCD. The image data is collected by single-chip computer, and then transferred to a personal computer where a software programmed with VC shows the data and a clear image can be seen.Due to the single-chip computer's slow speed which is difficult to attain uers' demand in some cases, DSP is used in successive development. And the design and implement process with DSP is discussed in detail and the problem of speed is solved. At last the system composed of walking paper platform, DSP and personal computer is completed .A great number of experiments show that the design is successful , which has very good application value and market benefit.
