Facts Or Norms: The Re-interpretation Of The Political Legitimacy In The Works Of Max Weber

How Is Society Possible, as the classical proposition of entire social sciences, is also the central subject which the numerous sociologists discusses repeatedly in their works. Along with it, the political legitimacy enters the social theoreticians'sight as a most basic dimension of discussing politics order. And, after experiencing the modernity, the Western Europe nation-state produced, the political legitimacy appeared especially. As a most great thinker of the West, Marx Weber took rational as the analysis conceptual of modernity individual condition, and faced the Great Transformation of the West social structure with the political legitimacy. In this sense, the interpretations of the political legitimacy in the works of Max Weber have the enlightenment to the present China political transition and the reconstruction of the political legitimacy. However, the paper will be mainly confined to the theoretical level of the political legitimacy in Weber's writings in order to avoid the fallacy of formalism.The author finds that the interpretations of the political legitimacy in Max Weber's writings are fragment such as Politics as a Vocation, the Basic Concepts of Sociology, the Domination of Sociology, Sociology of Religion and Sociology of Law. The Scholars often only enhanced the Domination of Sociology, particularly the Charisma. And then they thought evidently the political legitimacy in Max Weber's writings as consistent, neglected its different meanings and anxious. So the author wants to do up triple meanings of the political legitimacy basing on the Max Weber's writings and the second-hand document. Firstly, the author will review the construction from social action to social order, put the political legitimacy as the connection point between social action and social order, and then discuss the theoretical value of the political legitimacy in Facts. Secondly, the author will analyze the meaning of politics, propose the political legitimacy, discuss the maintenance of dominance, and then call the Germany Charisma, and then interpret the practical significance of the political legitimacy in Norms. Thirdly, the author will follow the context to show three types of the political legitimacy, reveal the ambiguity of his attitude for the political legitimacy.If would be talked the contributions of this dissertation, I believe that this paper mainly examines ambiguous opinions, attempts to propose the triple meanings of the political legitimacy in Max Weber's writings, responses to the critique of Jurgen Habermas and John Simmons, and reconstruct the development context of the Western Sociological Theory. Then the previous research focuses on the text, but ignores the relevance among the text, the individual life, social situations, even the History of Philosophy. The author pursues the breakthrough the method of the fundamental research, that is to say, understanding Weber needs the theme of writings history, personal life history, the social history, and the philosophy history.
