The history teaching theory of China is a subject which is introduced from the West. This subject was formed in the middle time of the Republic of China. At that time, China was in the course of nation-state building. And the subject of history was changing. This double transformation restricted the path of the evolution of the history teaching theory. What's more, the evolution was under the situation of one curriculum and many textbooks.From late Qing to the early Republic, the west history teaching theory was introduced into China. But the history teaching theory in 1920s was cosmopolitanism and was not fit for the situation of China. After the built of the National Government, the theory system of the teaching of history increased its speed of localization under the nationalism. But the localization was not the result of the policy of the National Government, it was the result of the nationalism of the intellectuals. Until 1937 the theory system of the teaching of history of China had its prototype which lasted to the end of the Republic.At that time the teaching of history had double bases of theory. Some scholars tried to introduce the education and psychology theory into the teaching of history. This helped the formation of the identity of the subject. Most scholars saw the teaching of history as the project of the subject of history. The theory of teaching of history pay close attention on the objective and meaning of history teaching, the form of history teaching and the requirements of the history teacher. The theory nearly had no influence on the practice.The famous historians showed strong interests on the middle school history teaching. Lii Simian suggested that the social studies should replace the history in the middle school. Tao Xisheng pay close attention on the objective of history teaching and tried to reconcile the nationalism and science. Gu Jiegang was against by both government and the Marxists. It showed the history teaching is connected with politics.The evolution of the theory of teaching of history of National Government has its value today. The history teaching should fit its needs of time and the patriotism education is still important. The subject of history teaching has its own rules and shouldn't be replaced by the subject of history. The professional history teacher is the most important fact of history teaching.
