Objective: Nursing undergraduates are the main body of nursing higher education. They are the mainstay of clinical nursing, nursing research, nursing education and development of nursing care delivery in the future. The level of information literacy of nursing undergraduates influences the level of private quality and the development of nursing care delivery in china. Therefore, to investigate the status quo of the information literacy of the nursing undergraduate .To analysis the existing question and the reason, to explore the way to promote the information literacy and to provide a basis for goal setting and making plan of nursing information literacy education in the future.Methods: Descriptive study was applied.507 nursing undergraduate students of HeBei Medical University, Capital Medical University and North China Coal Medical University were closed questioned. The questionnaire was designed by the researcher herself through bibliographic search. in order to get a better understanding of the information literacy of the nursing undergraduate, the researcher adds the range and depth of survey according to actual situation of nursing undergraduate The questionnaire was modified by some experts who studied the nursing education, supervision and scientific research for a long time after the first draft and based on it taking a pilot study of small sample to perfect the questionnaire. The questionnaire concentrated on its three aspects such as information consciousness, information capability, information morality and information environment. The information consciousness were reflected by the acquaintance with the information and information literacy, the frequency, the purpose , the way and the content of accessing information; the information capability were reflected by the acquaintance with the resource of the information, the ability to search, analyze, evaluate and use the information; the information morality were reflected by the acquaintance with the law of the country concerning the information and the information technology and the moral behavior of the information in daily study and life . SPSS13.0 was applied for the statistical analysis.Results:1 Information consciousness: The nursing undergraduate have recognized the importance of information and information literacy in information society, but they have not good information behavior. The nursing undergraduate who have never search information or search information occasionally in the library and on internet account for 49.9% and 52.5% respectively among 507 nursing undergraduate students. They have no certain purpose in accessing information and little interest in information of nursing science and related subjects. The main purpose of 72.8% of nursing undergraduate students being on internet is look through all kinds of information, 43.6% of nursing undergraduate students have never read journals on nursing science, 76.5% of nursing undergraduate students read reference in Chinese languages frequently, and also they rarely read reference in foreign languages.2 Information capability: although nursing undergraduate students are computer literate, they continue to experience problems accessing, evaluating, organizing and using the information. 57% of nursing undergraduate students look for books on shelf in library.45.2%,51.9% of nursing undergraduate students respectively are not acquainted with databases and their searching strategies. Only 11.0%, 11.6%, 13.6% of nursing undergraduate students respectively think they have strong ability to evaluate, organize and use the information. It is necessary to increase the ability of nursing undergraduate students to read foreign reference, the result suggests that only 3.6% of nursing undergraduate students think they have strong ability to read English reference. The group of low and high grade have no a significant difference in ability to operate computer, to evaluate, organize and use the information.3 Information morality: nursing undergraduate students know litter about the law and regulation related to the information, the cognition and attitude of intellectual property of nursing undergraduate students is ambiguous. The result suggests that 79.1% of nursing undergraduate students are not acquainted with the law and regulation related to the information and only if they are cheap and useful, 56% of nursing undergraduate students insist to buy piracy books.4 Information environment: the condition of the internet of school is poor. the librarians and professional teachers should put more effort into training information literacy of nursing undergraduate students.53.1% of nursing students think that the internet condition of school is poor, 55.0% of nursing students think that the library only delivers a lecture on literature search, the new knowledge and technology of the internet, only 7.1% of nursing students think that most of teachers assign tasks needing by searching and analyzing data to finish.Conclusion: The result suggests that the situation of the information literacy of nursing undergraduate students is not very satisfactory, the reasons are mainly the authoritative department and education institution have no plan and the suitable evaluation standard of information literacy education of nursing undergraduate, no sense of information literacy education, a monotonous teaching way, old textbooks, lagging behind teaching, and poor information environment. we should, therefore, take measures in information literacy education of nursing undergraduate, including: gaining the importance of related department attaching, drawing up the same standard, changing teaching ideology, renewing teaching idea, promoting information literacy of teachers, strengthening the construction of literature search, playing the role of the professional teachers, attaching the importance of incorporating information literacy into nursing curricula, strengthening the construction of resource of library.
