Objective To evaluate the condition of critical thinking and explore influencing factors among community nurses in Taiyuan.Subjects According to stratified sampling, 336 community nurses from 51 community health service institutions of six urban districts in Taiyuan were investigated. Methods: This is a cross-section study. Data was analyzed by SPSS13.0 software packet. Descriptive, T test, ANOVA and Linear regression were performed.Results: 1.The means score of the total critical thinking disposition among 322 community nurses was 276.32 indicating a ambiguous critical thinking disposition among community nurses. Seven sub-scales are Truth-seeking, Open-mindedness, Critical Thinking Self-Confidence, Systematicity, Cognitive Maturity, Analyticity, and Inquisitiveness from low to high score. 2. The difference about total score, Truth-seeking, Open-mindedness and Analyticity is significant among community nurses with different educational background. 3. The different about Analyticity and Inquisitiveness is significant among community nurses with different professional title. 4. The different about Cognitive Maturity, Open-mindedness, Inquisitiveness, Truth-seeking and total scale is significant among community nurses between home nursing and no participant. 5. The different about Truth-seeking, Open-mindedness, Analyticity, Inquisitiveness, Systematicity and total scale is significant among community nurses between case discussion participant and no participant. 6. The different about Open-mindedness, Critical Thinking Self-Confidence, Systematicity, Cognitive Maturity, Analyticity, Inquisitiveness and total score is different among community nurses with different type of seeking professional information. 7. The different about Cognitive Maturity, Analyticity, Inquisitiveness truth-seeking, Open-mindedness, Critical Thinking Self-Confidence and total score is significant among community nurses with different habit of reading. 8. The different about Truth-seeking, Critical Thinking Self-Confidence, Cognitive Maturity, Analyticity, Inquisitiveness and total scale is different among community nurses with different type of reading content. 9. There are attitude towards critical thinking, reading time, type of seeking professional information, case discussion in multi-regression equations.Conclusions: 1.The overall level of critical thinking disposition need to be promoted among community nurse. 2. Education and the practice of home nursing and case discussion can promote the development of critical thinking. 3. Reading time, the type of seeking information and the type of reading content impact the development of critical thinking. 4. The attitude towards critical thinking, reading time, type of seeking professional information, case discussion are important influencing factors.
