Relationships Between Marital Quality And Reproductive Health And Its Related KAB Among Married Women In Child-bearing Age In Rural Anhui

Objectives This study aims at investigating the marital quality and exploring the relationships between marital quality and reproductive health-related knowledge, attitudes and behaviors among married women of childbearing age in rural Anhui.Methods The survey questionnaire contained both mature assessment tools and self-designed questions. A total of 1398 married mowen of childbearing age in 15 villages of 3 counties were approached, and 1220 of them completed the survey. SPSS statistical analysis software was used to analyze the data collected and perform descriptive and linear correlation analysis.Results (1) Sixty percent of the respondents felt relatively satisfaction toward their marriage. This study surveyed 8 dimensions of marital quality, they were, personality issues, couple communicaiton, conflict resolusion, financial management, partner equality, children parenting, marriage satisfaction and sexual relationship. Among these dimensions, respondents got higer scores than American women on the former 4, while got lower scores than women from both American and cities of China on the latter 4. Grouped by age and education, it turned out that young and well educated women had relatively higher scores on marital quality. (2) The feeling on dysmenorrhea and its acompany syndromes, premenstrual physical syndromes, premenstrual depression and anxiety were all negatively related to most of scores of marital quality dimensions. Partnenr equality was negatively related to pregnancy times, while positively related to seeking health service behaviors when had at least 3 syndromes within childbed period. (3) The respondents'reproductive health-related knowledge was positively related with marital quality, especially with dimension of partner communication, conflict resolusion, sexuality, and partener equality. Marital quality and reproductive health-related knowledge had statistically significant relationships among all age groups; while such relationship was not found among women of senior high school education level. In the regard of reproductive health-related attitudes, this study had not found significant relationships between them and marital quality. The respondents'sexual hygiene and sexual issues communication behaviors were positively related with marital quality, meanwhile condom use behavior had no relationship with marital quality.Conclusions Married women in child-bearing age in rural Anhui had a middle level of marital satisfaction while partner equality need to be further improved. Statistically significant relationships were found between marital quality and reproductive health and its related knowledge and behaviors, suggesting that future interventions should take marital quality improvement into account.
