Objectives By investigating a First Level Class A general hospital of Changsha, we collect datum about the patient satisfaction and carry on the analysis and the appraisal to patient satisfaction investigation material in this hospital during 2003-2005. The scientific policy-making basis and the rationalization proposal will be provided to appraise the system by formulating the hospital patient satisfaction for the hospital superintendent.Methods The "inpatients' satisfaction rate questionnaire" formulated by Taiwan Medical Doctor Association was chosen for this survey and the "Liker scale" with a ten-point scale was used by inpatients to specify their level of agreement to a statement. Samples (n: 20 for each ward) were selected randomly among all inpatients with an odd hospital bed number on the third Thursday in the third month of every season. This study intentionally excluded inpatients that were with first admission and a hospital stay less than 3 days.Results Except the hospitalized environment and the meal quality satisfaction is lower, other appraisal factors of satisfaction have surpassed 90%, especially for the evaluation of satisfaction with the highest level of medical technology. Closer to the situation in 2003 and 2004 was no significant difference, but indicators have improved in different degrees in 2005, 2003, 2004 had significant differences. Sections 2003-2005, the total satisfaction of pediatric patients with the lowest total for the highest satisfaction 93.90%; obstetrics and gynecology and epidemiology, respectively, 96.56%, 95.95% and the ranks of medicine and surgery, were 94.44% and 95.80%.Conclusions This investigation and study about the First Level Class A general hospital of Changsha indicates the hospital patient satisfaction is good, and in overall patient to it more satisfied, quite is specially satisfied in the medical quality. The reason of the patient choosed the hospital have the certain influence to the satisfaction, specially the hospital reputation is the first consideration factor patient choosing the hospital. By Choosing the hospital, reason, receives a medical examination the administrative offices and the way for pays expenses have the certain influence to the satisfaction also. The medical personnel has the function to communication and patient's care with the satisfaction which is connected.
