Welcomed by many a grass-roots, TCM has peculiar advantages in preventingdiseases, cure, rehabilitation, health care, and life-cultivation. In the pastyears, TCM in the countryside in our province has achieved a lot and contributedto the issue of treating diseases. Whereas, there were times when some illpeople got no chance to visit doctors, and when the medical services couldnot meet people' sneeds. At present, 60% of the ill people would go the medicalinstitutions of county level or above and one out of three of the ill peopleare in health centers in small towns at the same time. A great number of peopleseek far and neglect hospitals that lie close at hand, which is against thenational medical reform and against the goals of TCM entering into countrysideand communities. The practitioners in grass-root hospitals, especially theTCM practitioners, are still of comparatively low quality and make progresstoo slow. Therefore, it is necessary to train some of the able doctors withstandardized training methods. These doctors are supposed to accept systematicTCM knowledge and skills training, so that they can change themselves fromspecialists to all-sided TCM practitioners. TCM's characteristics of briefness, convenience, cheapness, and efficiency help to solve grass-roots' prohlems of seeing doctors difficultly and expensively. It is foundation work ofbuilding up a powerful TCM province, is the significant part of nurturing neweconomic growth points, and is important to optimize the provincial economicstructure and to build highly civilized province.By questionnaire analysis, data collection, data bank building and groupdiscussion, this program observesthe basic conditions and training situationsof grass-root TCM practitioners in the countryside of our province. When theprogram was studied, some relevant people and specialists were consulted;suggestions concerning the standardized training of grass-root TCM practiticners in our province were collected. By collecting data and organizing sug gestions, this study aims to bring about constructive training project toprovide the government with reference and aims to combine the training withthe college education to provide the mentioned doctors with multi--level training. The grass-root TCM doctors have comparatively low degrees. Among them, only 22.57% received junior college degree and up to 36.78% have no degreeat all. TCM doctors occupy 16.7% in health centers of small towns, and 10.1in those of villages. There is no wholesome training system in those places, which does not match the economic development of our province, does not meetthe people needs of medical care, and is not in accordance with the requirementof building a powerful TCM province. Thus, it is significant to strengthenthe training of grass-root TCM doctors and attach more importance to non-degreeeducation. It is essential to train a large number of grass-root TCM doctors, who are of high quality, and can meet the needs of countryside medical development and the farmers' diverse needs of medical service, so as to boostthe grass-root medical course and to make TCM contribute more to thegrassroots and to the advances of TCM doctors.
