Objective: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is the most severe ocular complication of diabetes mellitus, it often results in damaged visual function, even results in complete blindness, and the lost vision almost never can be restored. It is crucial for preventing diabetic retinopathy progression to promptly perform laser treatment before vision damaged. It is very important to detect DR before vision damaged. The diabetic patient, ophthalmologist and physician should make an effort to prevent patients from blindness of DR. 830 patients with DR, 131 ophthalmologists and 200 physicians were interviewed with a questionnaire to evaluate the situation of cognition about DR from them, to analyze relevant factors affected diagnosis and treatment of diabetic retinopathy, to find defects in the course of diagnosis and treatment of diabetic retinopathy and to provide the basis for controlling retinopathy and protecting visual function in diabetic patients.Methods1 830 diabetic patients were randomly interviewed with a questionnaire concerning clinical characteristics of patients and relevant factors affected diagnosis and treatment of diabetic retinopathy.
