The morbidity in the south of China is higher than that in the north, especially in the middle-aged and the elderly. The mechanism of gout is uncertain now. It is lack of the therapy accounted for pathogenesis and can't be cure completely. Our study analyzed the treatment results of sixty patients from the aspects of especial nature climate, geography environment, physical constitution, living habits of Lingnan territory, explored the relationship between the Traditional Chinese Medicine theory and gout, Found a new way to prevent and treat the disease effectively, and contributed to the development of medicine in Lingnan territory. ObjectsTraditional Chinese Medicine is considered that gout belong to "bizheng" category, whichis related to diseases of "gout", "severe and migratory arthralgia", "dermatophytosis", andso on . There are many different opinions about pathogeny and pathological mechanism of acute gout arthritis, but the real cause is uncertain. It is considered that the tiny crystal of uric acid salt aggraded near arthrosis, and leaded to a series of inflammation reaction. MethodsClinic study was proceed by adopting the law of random, single-blind, comparison. 60 patients were diagnosed as acute gout arthritis according to the clinic standard, and divided into Tongfenglixiaotang therapeutic group (30 cases) and Western medicine group (30 cases)as contrast randomly. One period of treatment was 6 days, 2 periods were persisted successively. Observed the clinic symptoms and main data in the lab before and after treatment, analysed the data with statistic method. ResultsWe concluded that the effect of using Tongfenglixiaotang was better than using western medicine. It was confirmed that Tongfenglixiaotang could diminish inflammation, ease the pain, reduce the uric acid, and have no side effect, which showed the superiority and feature of treatment with Traditional Chinese Medicine. The clinic data suggested that the morbidity of acute gout arthritis was higher in the person who has the characters of spleen damp character and yang heat. The curative effect were better in the types of spleen poor damp choking and damp hot blocking inside than in other types. It was indicated that the physical constitution decided the evolutive of syndrome types. There are obviously relationship Between them.
