PrefaceMajor depression disorders is becoming a more serious problem of public health. The recent studies have proved that the depression , a psychosis, has a high morbidity recurrence sickness distribution and suicide rate. The China sickness distribution report by WHO also indicated that the depression has already become the second most serious disease in China. The international study showed that the mental disorder morbidity of somatopathic people was obviously higher than ordinary people. In addition, the somatopathy with a combination of depression could seriously impacted its prognosis. Major depression Disorders is a curable disease, but the problem of its diagnostic and treatment percentage needs to be urgently improved. Many studies have shown that many depression disturbed people informed doctors about their various uncomfortable feelings of bodies and some just went to the internal and external departments of general hospitals which were not specialized mental and psychological medicines. As a result, many depression disturbed people were misdiagnosed and mistreated. We randomly selected 23 general hospitals for a large scale epidemiological investigation on the constituent ratio of depressive disorders in Shenyang area.Methods6900 outpatients ≥15 years of age from 23 general hospitals (selected by stratified random sampling) were first evaluated by investigator using GHQ - -12, and then psychiatrists conducted a structured examination with subjectsscreened positive and 10% of those screened negative using the American psychiatric diagnostic criteria (DSM - IV) to generate the gold standard diagnosisResultsBased on the gold standard . the constituent ratio of any type of depression of disorders were 10. 19% . the constituent ratio of Major depression Disorder were 3. 71% . The constituent ratio of Depressive Disorder in females is same as in males. The constituent ratio of Depressive Disorder was higher in patient from level - 1 hospitals than in those from level - 2 hospital, in patient from level - 3 hospitals than in those from level - 2 hospital . The low indentity rate of doctors in general hospital to depressive disorder is found by us.DiscussionThe research results showed that constituent ratio of Depression of people a-mong the sick ones in the general hospitals was 10. 19% , which was similar to the international studies. The depressive disturbance has becoming a serious issue among the sick people at general hospitals. The doctors in three category hospitals usually have low recoganition of depressive disturbance, which is mainly resulted from more outpatients, heavy duties and busy schedule, short consulting hours with doctors and other factors.ConclusionsThe constituent ratio of depression in outpatients in general hospitals in Shenyang is relatively high but very few are diagnosed or treated. This situation deserves immediate and high - level attention from general hospitals and relevant government authorities. Different programs to increase the recognition and treatment of depression need to be developed and implemented throughout the country and the effectiveness of these programs need to be regularly monitored.
