Objective: To evaluate the effect of two sorts of denture adhesive on masticatory functions for complete denture wearers whose alveolar ridges are low or flat and make comparisons between these two denture adhesives. Methods: 10 edentulous patients with complete dentures whose alveolar ridges were low or flat were selected for this study. The masticatory efficiency determined by absorbency method was recorded before and after the application of the denture adhesives. Subjective evaluations from the patients were also gotten by giving the patients a questionnaire to complete. Results: The masticatory efficiency was improved after the application of the denture adhesives. Subjective evaluations of the patients indicated that denture adhesives benefited denture patients with improved stability, comfort, chewing ability and speaking. Conclusion: Denture adhesives can significantly improve masticatory functions for complete denture wearers whose alveolar ridges are low or flat. |
