Objective To find the relationship between serum levels ofserum ferritin(SF), hyaluronic acid(HA), typeâ…¢ procollage(Pâ…¢NP), laminin(LN), type collagen (IV-C) and hepatic fibrosis inpatients with chronic liver disease as well as to determine theirvalue in clinical practice. Methods 85 serum samples from patients with chronic liverdisease were tested with RIA for serum ferritin and fibrosis indexesassays including HA, LN, Pâ…¢NP and IV-C. 50 of the patients withserum samples performed liver biopsy and the biopsy material wereexamined pathomorphologically. Serum ferritin and fibrosis werecompared according to fibrosis stage. Results In the 85 serum samples from patients with chronicliver disease, the concentration of serum ferritin had significantcorrelation with the levels of fibrosis indexes due to the increase ofdegree of chronic liver disease. In the 50 of the patients with serumsamples performed liver biopsy and the biopsy material wereexamined pathomorphologically. The relation indexes to HA,LN,Pâ…¢NP and IV-C were 0.68,0.58, 0.47, 0.61 respectively. The levels of serum ferritin were elevated due to increase ofhepatic fibrosis stages (fromS1toS4).Conclusion Serum ferritin in and serum fibrosis indexes playan important indicative role in diagnosing hepatic fibrosis degree. However, as diagnosis markers they should be combined with liverfunction ultrasonography liver pathological diagnosis and clinicalfeatures.
