A c1 inica1 Study of ga1vano--acupuncture on cervica1 syndromeMaster candidate' Tu ShengyuanSupervisor: Prof. Lai XinshengABSTRACTCervica1 syndrome is a cofnmon disease in o1d and midd1e age people andwi th the c1 inical mani festations of headache, dizziness, pain andst i ffness in nuchae, upper 1 imb pain and numbness, catap1exy etc. The mainpathogenesis of cervica1 syndrome is degeneration of the intervertebra1discs. As the deve1opment of modern socia1 and the change. of l if e pattern, the iflcidence rate of cervica1 syndrome has increased. 8esides, the ageof Qnset of this i11ness has been younger than before. Cervica1 syndromehas become o[1e of the most important factors to threaten the qua1ity ofl i fe the hea1th 1eve1 of human being. Therefore, it's significant toresearch the operative therapeutics.According to TCM, cervica1 syndeome be1ongs to the category of"b i--syndroIne", "f lacc idi ty--syndrome", "di zz i ness" and "st if fness of neck"which pathogenesis are Taiyang channe1 Qbstruction j imba1ance betweeny1ng--energy and wei---energy, s tagnated Q1 and blood stasis, deficiency ofQi afld blood resu1ted by wind, co1d, damp, or overstrain. Proved by1ong--term pract ice of TCM, acupuncture is effect ive method in treat ingcervica1 syndrome.8ased on my tutor's 1ong--term c1 in1ca1 practice, modern research andsystematic review of 1 iterature, we adopt the therapeutic method "Ji ng6three need1es" (tianzhu, bai1ao, dashu) created by Pro. Jin Rui accompaniedwith other points according to different symptoms and signs. The object iveof this study is to eva1uate the effect of "Jing three need1es" in treatingcervica1 syndrome. and research the physio--mechanisms of effect of "Jingthree need1e" therapeutics using the transcranial Dopp1er(TCD), furthermore to discuss the effective assessment indexes oftraditiona1 Chinese medicine in treating cervical syndrome.Thi s study is a randomized contro1 prospective cl i nica1 trial. Tota1ly60 cases was treated in this trai1, which were randomly divided into 2groups, they are ga1vano--acupuncture treating group and control group(treated by traction) There are 30 patients in each group. The resu1t from the ana1ysis of c1inical data manifests that ingal vano--acupuncture treating group healed 11 cases, obvious effects l0cases, effects 7 cases, ineffi ciency 2 cases, the tota1 effective rate was93. 33% and hea1ed 6 cases, obvious effects 7 cases, effects 1l cases, ineffi ci ency 6 cases, the tota1 effecti ve rate was 80% in contro1 group. There i s a signi ficant difference between the two groups (P<0. 05). Comparedwith before and after treating, in ga1vano--acupuncture treating group, there are statist ic significant in the vertebra1 artery blood f1ow--rateV. and V. (P<0. 05) and V.(P<0. 05) respective1y in 1ow b1ood f1ow--rate andhigh blood f1ow--rate subgroup, basi 1ar artery b1ood f1ow--rate V.(P(0. 01) and V. and V. (P(0. 05) respective1y in 1ow b1ood f1ow--rate andhigh b1ood f1ow--rate subgroup. There are statistic signficant of theimprovement between before and after treat ing of the vertebral arteryb1ood flow--rate V. (P<0. 0l) and V. (P(0. 05) respectively in 1ow b1ood7flow--rate and high b1ood flow--rate subgroup, basilar artery bloodf1ow--rate V. (P<0' 05) in high blood f1ow--rate subgrOup. After spearmaflrank corre1ation ana1ysis we found that a11 of the patients in two groupsshow a corre1ation between age and effect(rs=0. 501).
