| According to the current problems in the management of cool-season turfgrass in North China and the shortcomings in application of buffalograss and zoysia japonica which are both warm-season turfgrass,in order to select the bermudagrass materials which adapt to the climate of North China,this experiment studied on the adaptability of 5 American seeded bermudagrass varieties and 6 local bermudagrass materials in Baoding.The main results were summarized as follows:The 5 American bermudagrass varieties could live through winter in Baoding,but there was a great difference in the green period;A5 had the longest green period to 193 days,while A1 and A4 both had the shortest green period,only 145 days;Due to the difference of cold resistance property,the varieties tumning green earlier had more than 20 days in advance in the growth and development period than the others.The green period range of local bermudagrass materials was 178~189 days;C1 and C5 both had reached a green period of 189 days;C5 and C6 had about one week earlier than the other materials in the development date.Most bermudagrass materials in this test flowered in June and seeded in July.The results of the main morphological characters showed:The range of erect stem height of American varieties was 16.14~25.62 cm and it was 17.44~30.98 cm of local materials;The range of stolon internode length of American varieties was 2.65~4.79 cm and it was 3.43~6.34 cm of local materials;The range of reproductive stem height of American varieties was 17.24~23.12 cm and it was 19.15~32.11 cm of local materials.American varieties A2,A3 and A5 had higher turf quality in summer,while A1 and A4 had slightly poorer turf quality due to the vertical growth property.Only C1 had higher turf quality among local materials,and turf texture was the greatest factor which restrict the application of local materials.The measurement of cold adaptability in autumn showed:The relative conductivity of all the bermudagrass materials had a downtrend,and the sequence of the average was A5<C1<C5<C3<A3<C2<A2<C4<C6<A4<A1.The chlorophyll content of bermudagrass materials decreased in autumn and reached the maximal down-range at 2nd November; the chlorophyll damage rate range of American varieties was 83.77%~85.65%and it was 79.36%~85.70%of local materials at 2nd November.The result of Fv/Fm decreased slowly and then decreased sharply;it had extremely significant difference of all the bermudagrass materials at 2nd November;the Fv/Fm range of American varieties was 0.636~0.739 and it was 0.645~0.761 of local materials at 2nd November.In comprehensive analysis of all the tested materials,A5 and C1 not only had higher turf quality,but also had moderate growth rate and rapid recovery.Through the observation of green period and the measurement of cold resistance,the resultes showed that A5 and C1 had strong cold resistance property,and they could be used in Labor Day and National Day which are two important festivals in China,so they were suitable for application in Baoding region. |
