Adaptability Study On The Different Cold-season Turf-grass Introduced In Bengbu Region

In order to make up for the long withering and yellowing period of warm-season turf-grass in winter,cold-season turf-grass varieties were introduced in many places to extend the ornamental period of the whole lawn.However,some cold-season turf-grasses couldn't survive through summer or winter in many places.To work out this problem,we introduced thirteen cold-season turf-grass varieties based on the climate characters in Bengbu region,i.e.,'Turf star','Midnight','Total eclipss','Award','Merit' and 'Nuglade' belonging to Poa L.;'Ryeprince','Esquiro' belonging to Lolium L.;'Fuscue Supreme', 'Houndag V','Pride','Millennium' and 'Plantation' belonging to Festuca L..Then,we launched some plantation experiments to assessed their comprehensive performance according to their apparent qualities such as leaf color,physiological parameters such as chlorophyll content and soluble sugar content,desease-resistance,over-summering and over-wintering adaptability,the comprehensive performance after patched transplantation and some other aspects.The main results were as follows:â… .The apparent quality and physiological parameters of different cold-season turf-grass varieties were determined repectively in spring and summer after the seedlings came out.The result showed:that there existed great differences for the apparent quality parameters such as plant height texture,tillering density,uniformity,coverage and leaf color of seedlings of thirteen cold-season turf-grass varieties,among which 'Pride','Millennium', 'Houndogâ…¤'and 'Plantation' belonging to Festuca L.grew better than other varieties both in spring and over-summering period and 'Ryeprince','Esquiro' belonging to Lolium L. grew better in spring but poorer in over-summering period than other varieties;that the fullowing varieties such as 'Pride','Houndogâ…¤','Millennium','Ryeprince','Plantation', 'Esquiroand','Award' were better in chlorophyll content,root vigour,soluble sugar,Pro content but poorer in MDA content than others.The comprehensive analysis of the apparent quality and physiological parameters indicated that 'Pride','Millennium','Houndogâ…¤'and 'Plantation' belonging to Festuca L.were the best among all varieties,suitable for Bengbu region in spring and summer seasons;that 'Ryeprince','Esquiro' belonging to Lolium L.grew better in spring than in summer;that the six varieties belonging to Poa L. grew weaker than others in spring and except the two varieties of Lolium L.in summer.â…¡.The apparent quality and physiological parameters in antumn and over- wintering rate of the different cold-season tuff-grass varieties were determined in the experiment.The result showed:that the following varieties such as 'Millennium','Pride','Plantation', 'Houndogâ…¤','Ryeprince' and 'Esquiro' grew better in apparent quality than others and the over- wintering rate of all varieties were above 90%;that the varieties such as 'Award', 'Ryeprince','Esquiro','Millennium','Pride','Plantation' and 'Houndogâ…¤' were better in the root vigour,chlorophyll content,soluble sugar,Pro content but poorer in MDA content and relative conductivity than those of other varieties.The comprehensive analysis of the apparent quality and physiological parameters indicated that 'Millennium','Pride', 'Houndogâ…¤','Esquiro','Award' and 'Merit' grew better in autumn and winter,therefore, these cold-season turf-grass varieties would be suitable for cultivation in Benbu region in autumn and winter.â…¢.The apparent quality and some physiological parameters of different cold-season turf-grass varieties were determined after transplanted in spring.The result showed:that the following varieties such as 'Ryeprince','Esquiro'(belonging to Lolium L.),'Pride', 'Millennium','Houndogâ…¤'(belonging to Festuca L.),'Award'(belonging to Poa L.)grew better in apparent quality than others and that the varieties such as 'Pride','Millennium', 'Houndogâ…¤','Esquiro','Ryeprince' and 'Award' perfomed better in chlorophyll content, nitrate reductase activity,the root vigour and Pro content than other varieties.After transplanted in spring,'Ryeprince' and 'Esquiro' belonging to Lolium L.grew best among all the varieties investigated and 'Millennium','Pride','Houndogâ…¤'(belonging to Festuca L.),'Award'(belonging to Poa L.) grew better than the others.â…£.After the seedlings of different cold-season turf-grass varieties had grown into lawn,The comprehensive analysis of the apparent quality and physiological parameters in the period of the growth in spring,over-summering adaptability,recovering growth in autumn,over-wintering safety and transplantation next year indicated that 'Millennium', 'Price' and 'Houndogâ…¤' belonging to Festuca L.were best suitable for an extensive cultivation in Bengbu region.In addition,'Esquiro' belonging to Lolium L.and 'Award' belonging to Poa L.could be introduced to increase the cold-season turf-grasses varieties to some extent.
