At nuclear power plants, fuel assemblies of pressurized water reactor core work in high temperature, high-pressure, intense radiation and circulating water surroundings. For some reasons such as assembly stress and thermal stress, fuel rods and fuel assemblies will distort, and grave transmogrification will endanger the reactor's running. So it is necessary to make a periodic distortion checking for it.The paper expatiated mainly design and production of the sample machine measuring fuel assemblies'distortion, including mechanical equipment subsystem, laser scanning subsystem, circuit subsystem and data capture software subsystem. Through detecting successfully a simulative fuel assembly, it has proved the correctness of the measurement based on laser-scanning and checked the accuracy in measurement of the sample machine.Laser has characteristics with small divergence angle and high intensity. So laser scanning is an excellent non-contact measurement method with high-precision, wide dynamic range and anti-jamming. The paper also introduced a method of comparative measurement, which eliminated the errors that resulted from velocity variety of DC electromotor used in the laser scanning subsystem.The mechanical transmission gear subsystem is an open loop servo system composed of a step motor, a worm reducer and synchronous belts.
