A research project on the single-enveloping of TI worm drive, which consists ofinvolute helical gear and hourglass worm enveloped by the gear, is carried out basedon the advanced CAD three-dimensional simulation technique. Parameterized solidmodeling for the TI worm drive is achieved. Tooth contact analysis is developed forthe TI worm gearing with assembly errors. The content of the research is as follows:On the base of the meshing theories of TI worm drive, the mathematical modelof TI worm drive with assembly errors is set up, and correlative tooth flank equationsof TI worm pair are derived.The parameterized design method based on characteristic is studied.Three-dimensional solid modeling based on characteristic of TI worm drive is built,and the transition curve in tooth profile is fully considered, three-dimensional modelof gear is accurately built. The programs are designed on the VC++ programsplatform. A procedure module of parameterized modeling for TI worm drive isdeveloped and successfully embed in modeling software, and it come true to simulatethe actual movement of TI worm drive. In addition, based on the equations abovementioned, instantaneous contact lines and meshing contact regions are plotted on thethree-dimensional model of TI worm pair.By combining 3D solid modeling technique with numerical computation, theproblem how to determine the tooth contact positions for TI worm drive is studiedwhen assembly errors existing. In virtue of three-dimensional intuitionistic resultchats of tooth contact of the worm and the wheel, the contact positions for TI wormdrive are found based on the method of digital approximation. Moreover, theinfluence of assembly errors on the meshing contact capability of TI worm drive isanalyzed.
